    Default New HOLDEN 6.0L V8 from 1 Jan 2006!

    Guys

In case you havent heard yet - an article in the SMH today confirms what we have all be wanting to know: WHAT HAPPENS TO GEN III from Jan 1 2006 when EURO 3 comes into play!

It seems Holden are quietly dropping the L76 version of the GEN IV into the Commodore range from Jan 1!

And this is quite an innovative engine! Amongst other things, it has "Displacement On Demand" technology which means that the engine shuts off 4 cylinders when not required for fuel economy!

Check out the article at http://www.drive.com.au/editorial/article.aspx?id=10679

Think of it this way, you have one of the last of the Gen III powered Commodores. Great news none the less. I like the fact that it has a 7% better fuel economy rating (according to Holden).

Even if the 6LT is due in Jan2006. Anyone who got a SSZ got one hell of a great deal still.

thats it, the ssv is a sweet package, and there may be possible teething problems for the 6L like any new technology. Will be interesting to see 6Lfuel stats and performance.

Once the new 6LT hits the streets, particularly if it is more economical, you wouldnt want to have gone anywhere near an SSZ. It's resale along with anything else with an LS1 will take a nose dive.
It's been this way since Jesus played fullback for Jerusalem and with high petrol prices and a terrible second hand and new car sales market, it will be even worse.
This isnt just a few more kw's its a whole new far more advanced engine design.

what fuel consumption comes with this car?
i went to the motor show and saw a holden SS with 15L/100km

with the SSZ, how much better would it get then?
    14L/100km then ... ?

From what I’ve read, the new engine is a compromise to meet emissions requirements. It’s a push rod 2 valves per cylinder engine designed for small trucks. What’s to get excited about. I have no doubt that it is reliable and would probably last forever but, in terms of technology, unfortunately Ford has the jump on the General.

Yep they might also with their v8 being a quad cam 32 valve but having never driven one, is it any better on fuel or smoother or more powerful feeling than the gen 3? (and now the new 6l) From what ive heard it isn't... i say keep the pushrod v8 it works and it kicks some ass!

The GEN IV is a pushrod engine.

I guess your are right. You don't get a V8 for the revs. You can get a hot 4 for that.

I haven't driven one either but my friends a cop and has driven both, I don't think he would buy either since hes too sensible to spend the money on fuel but he does say the Ford sounds 100 times better. I think everyone knew that allready. The gen 3 is not famous for sounding good : )

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I didn't really think this warranted a new one.

What will holden be doing with the current gen 3 V8's come Jan 1? Due to the Euro 3 emissions will it be illegal for them to be sold as new vehicles (highly unlikely) or are they still allowed to clear the current stock?

Also, does anyone know when dealers will be putting L76 equipped cars on display, is it as of 1/1/06 or will they bring them out a bit sooner?

Since they export quite a few of these to other coutries, they will propably just re-badge them and sell them to Dubai or South Africa untill there stock is finished.
I am not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

NZ will be a dumping ground for the old stock. I read somewhere that NZ will not get Gen IV until the VE.
And on the drop in value, the VZ with the 6.0Lt L76 will no doubt drop in value when the VE is released in the 2nd half of 06.

i think they're will be a few waiting until the release of the VE before they purchase the L76 SSZ, i know that i'll be one of them.
