2006 sv6 commodore
Hi Guys (and girls)
Just new to the forum and hoping for some help

Bought my 2006 sv6 (3.6ltr) about 8 months ago. It was the last of the series apparently (5 speed auto)
What i am finding now is fairly strange and hard to explain but i'll try.

At work when i pull into the carpark the road is on a very slight decline, i take my foot off the throttle and let it coast, while coasting i can feel the gearbox dropping down to 1st gear then back to second with a definite "clunk" noise, it does this up and down thing till i stop.
On the open road it's fine, no problem kicking down to overtake etc.
The dealer is saying that most likely it will be the kickdown switch but going from past experience with the dealer he may be wrong and try to charge me anyway.
Has anyone had this problem before?

Many thanks

Book it into an Auto Transmission Specialist for a service and check.

Also check your fluid levels if you haven't done so already.

Just been told by an auto trans outfit that my model commodore (2006 5 speed auto) doesn't have a kickdown switch ?!?
They said it might be either a sticky solenoid or a setting in the computor that has gone weird.

It was the holden dealership guy that originally told me it had one?!?. At the stage now where i don't/can't trust the dealer so have to go elsewhere

The guys sitting at the desks at our work are stupid enough to say something like that.
They are old and probably techs back in the 80 when cars really did have kick down switches/cables lmao.

The amount of **** i hear coming out of their mouths.

yes its hard for us old farts to keep on top of every innovation or adaption to each model that comes out or every service directive issued.....having worked both on the tools and in the office one appreciates the roles each plays.....the techs get all the schooling and the service geeks get to deal with impatient and unruly customers...im sure given the chance the service geeks would love to catch up on the latest technology .... I know for me its not easy but im trying

Pretty certain what your describing happens with my 5 speed auto, when going down a hill and coasting at low speed (<20kph) its like the transmission is going from letting the car coast to going down a gear or locking up torque converter to provide resistance? Theres a slight clunk and jolt to the car.

Not sure exactly why but I've had it serviced twice and found nothing.

So I have just left it, doesn't do it if I go down the hill faster or brake rather than coast.
