Please guru's offer suggestions.

I have this problem when I fill the tank up on my 2006 vz wagon.
It will start then immediately stall.
Then it will take 2 or 3 goes to start it and runs like a hairy goat. (visualise that)

Exhaust smells and will stall when engaging drive or reverse.
This will go on for a couple of days then it will stop suddenly and runs great again.

Until the next fuel stop...

I have replaced the plugs and fuel filter (which was extremely blocked)
Coils are ok. 2 replaced recently

The only mod is a cat back from a VZ Storm ute.

There was an old thread with an identical problem however there was no solution posted.

Could it still be a fuel filter blocked? Perhaps the tank is full of trash?

Do you get a 'check engine' light after it stalls?
If so it should have thrown a diagnostic code.

You're not overfilling the tank? Overfilling can send fuel to the charcoal canister. If it does get filled with fuel, unmetered fuel can get sucked into the engine when the evap runs, not a good thing.

Fuel tank cap look OK?

Never overfill. Only to first click.
Cap looks ok and 1 way valve tested good.

Just got it back from the mechanic.
Codes:
P2178 fuel trim rich during cruising/acceleration bank1
P2180 fuel trim rich during cruising/acceleration bank2

Changed the air filter and checked for intake blockages and collapsed piping.
He suggested the fuel pump could need replacing.
