Hi guys, I’m hoping someone knows? I’m looking at getting a 2nd hand ecu for my adventra the gm part# is 12600940. Would the donor ecu need to be ‘decoded’(i think it means de-paired from the other computer bits) with a computer while it’s still in the donor car before it can be transferred to my car by my local holden dealer? they say it does but i hoped someone here could confirm? it will affect how good a deal i can get on a used ecu. a new part is $1237 & it's $2-300 to code up so not cheap. Cheers in advance for any help.

A VZ ute that had the ECU replaced (random codes all the time) we just needed the VIN of the donor car's ECU to get it programmed in.

thanks for that 88. would that mean the vin# was used to look up the security details or it was the vin# itself which was used to unlock/decode the ecu before recoding to the new car? am i making sense? cheers

VZ Adventra Jacked up 2 inch plus on 225/60/17
i have a 2005 adventra with random fault codes and all point to it losing communication with drivetrain. its had auto service $295, and the codes cleared by holden $88. just waiting for the words on if the codes come back and what ones are fresh.
but the ECU (well its the transmission link/brain passengers side kick panel) is only $350 for it here in AUS.

this confirms that u need the actual donor car and ECU to do a reset in it, Before you can use it on your car to replace faulty ECU

I would have them scan and print out codes and then have them clear them. don't take to much notice with the logged codes(basicly old stored codes) just concentrate on the open codes. these have not been closed and sorted yet.

Scan gauge tells u the codes and can clear them but limited to that for diagnostics. try disconnecting the battery and leave the hazards on overnight, or 2 days. this should make it start again and learn between all bits, ECU, PIM and BCM. (link up)
so far what i have worked out it the one in the kick panel passengers side it the culprit for all the code problems.

I think that's the powwer train module. It should spit out power train errors if it's on the blink.
