One of the air shocks used by my Adventra's self-levelling suspension has an oil (?) leak.
It looks like it's been leaking for a while; not a huge amount, but noticeable.
There's a little sludge built up on the outside.

How serious is this?
One of my friends who saw it said "Don't worry - they often do that. No need to replace it immediately"
Is he right?

Depends on how much the shock has lost mainly, does the car still ride right? if you bounce it up and down heavily does it stop bouncing and settle quickly?

Would keep it in mind to be done next time you service it.

If it's leaking, it needs replacing. They dont leak brand new.

I wonder if the shock had been pushed past its limit and broke a seal or something, when you had the trouble with the king spring installation. Wouldn't take much to gather dust and turn into sludge, though that being said I would have thought that the system would have a safety cut off limit.

Hmmmmm....

The shocks seem to be working OK, but maybe I should buy a pair on eBay, and replace the shock when I get the springs fitted again.

UPDATE

Had the car in for a major service today, and the mechanics said that one of the air shocks is "leaking badly", and the other one is "leaking".

Assuming I want to replace with with adjustable air shocks (I like the auto-levelling system), would these be suitable replacements?

I've heard that you can get an adapter so the hoses from the existing compressor fit, and also that the Monroes are better than the factory ones.

Any knowledge/opinions?

I have replacement shocks ready, but the old ones are still working perfectly.
Maybe they stopped leaking?

They won't magically stop leaking. Replace the units since you have replacements and bin the old ones.
