changing gears in an auto

hi, i was wondering if i were to drag race someone with the exact same car as me, both automatics and one of us used the gears 1-3 while the other just had it in drive the whole time....would there be any advantages? which would be faster? thanks.

My old Subaru (turbo - auto) was auto and had sports shift mode (still changed automatically, just raised the rpm on the change) and also manual select. Tested when first released, the car in auto sports shift mode could not be beaten by someone deciding when to change the gears manually. If you auto tranny is in good condition and is computer controlled, then it probably better to let the car decide what to do.

Computer controlled electro-hydraulics are far quicker than us humans.

Unless ofcourse your in a series 1 VN V6. Because then manual shifting will have you 2 car lengths ahead of an LSA GTS at your local traffic light grand prix.
