Got about 5 minutes away from work and my car started making some weird undescribable noise and temp gauge started heading toward the high heavens. Didn't get any warning lights or nothing, so I pulled over and noticed that the coolant was pissing out. Got worried so I left her there and walked the rest of the way to work. Went down and filled my coolant back up, then took her for a quick drive and let idle for a bit till the fans kicked in. Everything seems to be going alright, had a look under the car and there weren't any noticible leaks but I'm still concerned as to what happened.

Worried because I'm only on my break and I've gotta sort out a way home after work which is a roughly 60km drive. Would it be safe to get the car home? And the hell caused that to happen? Had the car idling for about 30 minutes now and the temp seems fine. Still insanely confused though.

Pissin out from where. While it was hot, under pressure that would of been the ideal time to source the leak. Useless when its cooled down :banstick:

It's highly likely to happen again soon when it heats up and builds pressure again until you find the problem. Could be a failed radiator cap, cracked radiator, heater tap, busted hose or any of the rubber seals.
When it's warm now does the system hold pressure? Top hose feel hot and firm or soft?

VZ have a chronic problem with the "radiator" cap.
For $25, I kept a spare one handy, and a big bottle of coolant.

vz sv6 2005 update
if you lost a lot of fluid you will need to bleed the system as well there is a procedure to follow or it will have air in system and will continue to over heat there is a bleeder on radiator
loosen bleed screw and fill system through filler on engine until fluid comes out off bleeder tighten bleeder and fill till full start enginerun at 2000 rpm until fans come onidle engine until fans switch off turn engine off open bleed screw and refill system until fluid flows from bleed screw closeand tighten and top up them check over flow bottle level

Try to identify from exactly what position the coolant is escaping. Is it front, rear, left, right etc. This will help you to track down said leak. Check that the overflow tube from the filler neck (just below the radiator cap) is securely connected to the overflow bottle. Sometimes they can come loose and any fluid expelled under heat/pressure drains onto the ground. If you are unable to locate the source, I suggest you take the vehicle to a radiator specialist and have the cooling system pressure checked. If you are a member of an Auto Club (NRMA, RACQ, RAA etc) they will come to your vehicle and can also check cooling system for leaks.
