Adventra Rear Window: Should it POP RIGHT OPEN?

I always had the impression that my Adventra's rear window should pop right open (I mean wide open, to the max) when I press the remote open button (or the button bizarrely hidden inside the glovebox).
Instead, what it's always done is to pop a little, and you have to encourage it a fair bit of the rest of the way.

So, figuring that the struts were stuffed, I replaced them today.

Disappointment. It still only pops open a little. Then a bit of manual encouragement (about 5cm worth) and it swings wide open rapidly.
It does open faster than before, once lifted a little, but I was expecting an auto open.

Is this what it's meant to do?

I just got new struts for my avalanche and even those dont make it open automatically

You need to lift them like a normal tailgate. Both my Adventras were the same.

From some of the descriptions, I thought they popped right up.

I've already had a think about how I could modify it to do so, but I should probably just leave it alone!
