Just wondering if anyone has installed something like this yet? As we're more the age of USB plugs than the "cigarette" style plug, and where you got yours, very interested in something like this, looks like a very easy solder and plug job! Cheers!

most USB cig light chargers these day are dual as well with a 1amp and a 2.1amp on them.

but i can see the need to fit one of these plugs permanently, i got a mate who has them in his car and im looking for a spot in mine to put one so my cig lighter is free.

Yep, just got a Jaycar jobby for $25 and wired it to (12v) power with a fuse, easy as. The 2.1a is a must if you want mains speed charging or use a hefty tablet device, but I like that this can be permanently mounted on the console neatly retaining your cigarette lighter.

I installed a dual port usb outlet where the cigarette lighter socket used to be (still run one under the dash for other accessories that may need it) but the usb is great for phones/gps/cameras etc. And isn't as tardy as most of those adapters

I have the cigarette lighter socket USB type adapters. Two with 2.1A capacity.

The problem is that the USB adapter slowly works its way out of the cigarette lighter socket housing and stops charging the battery. Grrr.

Good idea to make a fixed USB socket supply outlet.:idea3:
