vz wagon
G'day my vz wagon is heating up too quickly on short trips. While driving locally around 50 or 60 km it gets to half and then the thermo fans come on and cool it down. On the highway naturally it is fine but when I stop at lights and such it heats up to the point of the fans coming on again. What could this be ?

Have you regularly flushed the cooling system and replaced coolant to Holden Specifications ?

If so, suggest you visit and accredited Auto Cooling Specialist who can check the system and if necessary remove radiator to clean the core - usually fails with build up of 'gunk' etc.

Sounds like it's doing exactly what it's supposed to. Unless you're saying if you drive at 50-60 constantly without stopping it will climb up and the thermo will come on?

VX II Acclaim Wagon.
So the worst it gets is halfway ? Isn't that within normal range ?

Could possibly a tired thermostat, although when they fail they normally either tend to stay open or shut.

Other than that it sounds like it's operating normally.
