Hey y'all,
I was stopped at a set of traffic lights, everything was fine. When I took off I heard a loud bang, thinking I must have ran over a stick. Continued driving for a few metres then I noticed the smell of coolant in the cabin.
I checked the temperature gague and it was past the halfway mark and noticed steam billowing out of the front passenger side of the bonnet.
Quickly pulled into a carpark and turned the engine off to assess the problem. At this stage, coolant was clearly leaking onto the ground only from the left hand side. Tried to check all the hoses and they were fine, the steam was comming from the reservoir tank and there was deffinately a boiling sound around the radiator filler cap hose.

Called racv and they filled up the car with water and tried to heat up the car so the fans would turn on. The fans didnt manage to turn on and they said it was the thermostat.

Based on these symptoms is the problem really a dud thermostat?
Car's an alloytec 190 btw.
