I'm looking at buying used 2005 VZ Crewman Storm S and am wondering how many kms it's likely to be able to manage. There's 225k on this one. Also, any experience with using one as a family car, and/or to tow a horse float?

Hello Double Mary,
I have one in red, have almost finished rebuilding the driveline. Mine was a basket case I bought in pieces with 300,000 kays, a dead motor, clutch and kangaroo damage. I wanted one in a 6.0 thunder option, but this one was there at the right price. Not an issue really I've been playing with cars and motorbikes for 45 years now and I reckon the crewman is a fairly well built vehicle, sure it has weak areas like the standard clutch in the manual, front guards are a bit flimsy and not a great deal behind them, but the chassis is solid and they do ride way better than my last four crewcabs (, two late hiluxes , Nissan d22, and a much modded R9 Rodeo)and have way nicer appointments.
I reckon they will one day be a bit of a sought after vehicle as they were only made for a few years and have a better (to my eyes anyway) style than rough as guts crewcabs based on 4by chassis' that drive like tanks (Ok little Pantechs).

Towing shouldn't be an issue, they have the weight down low, long wheelbase and if the float is well setup should be as, if not more stable than something with a high centreline.

Great tow vehicle, they are large and tend to have a passenger blind side due to high tray , but a reverse camera fixes this

Great family vehicle and think about the Cross6/8 if you're a camper/skier just for that added traction and clearance.
