Hey y'all. After seeing those pics of the oil sludge and all I'm kinda parinoid about my servicing intervals on the 3.6lt VZ. Is an oil filter and oil change every 5000km over the top and a waste of cash?
My local mechanic assured me 10000km or every 6 months is more then enough. The car doesn't do any heavy towing or cooking in traffic in town, just a mix of motorway and odd spat down the shops.
Now I know you guys have forgotten more s*** then I know about cars so what's your honest opinion?
Thanks

In an VZ alloytec i'd say every 5,000 to 7,000km to be safe and don't use cheap **** oil.

Sludge up and blockages occur in those things way to easily.

5000kms and USE THE CORRECT OIL. It's in the books. Digest and understand what the numbers mean.
Do it yourself. These VEs are the most easy cars to change the oil and filter.

Do it every 5,000km's, but use good quality oil as has been said.
I have serviced all the vehicles I've owned over the years at 5,000km intervals and don't consider it to be overkill.
Engine oil and filters are cheap........... engine overhauls are not
My dirtbike gets it's air filter serviced after every ride and a oil & filter change every second ride

I dont see an issue with 10,000km or 9 months. But 10000km and 6 is better.

Well I plan on keeping the vz for a while. Looks like I'm doing an oil and filter change this week because 5k is up now. What oil do you guys like or recommend and what should I pay?
Sorry for the newbie ass questions, I'm a bit **** at picking oil because I'm a motorbike guy really. I usually go to Supercheap because it's just down the highway a bit. Thanks everyone.

Castrol, Penrite, Fuchs etc have oil recommendation sections on their websites.
Fill in your vehicle details and it will list the recommended oils, coolants, brake fluid etc for your vehicle with pictures of what the products container looks like
