New 2006 VZ SS 6.0Lt or VE SS - which would you buy?
It's time for me to upgrade the old girl for a new one. So I had my heart set on waiting for the VE SS to come out but now see Holden have tricked up the updated VZ with the 6.0 Lt donk to include performance brakes, performance stainless exhaust, leather seats, climate control, 5 alloys from the final Munro and a couple of other things. Which would you buy?

Wait for the VE, it's going to have DoD and VVT which are disabled on the VZs 6.0 litre, as well as quad exhausts.
There is the whole thing about the last of the model being the most refined versus the first of the model without the possible bugs ironed out, comes down to taste.. wait a while anyway, get some solid evidence on the VE before you do anything just so you don't kick yourself later.. cost is another factor

If you like the VZ, wait till the VE is available and get it at "clearance/run out" prices.
VE should be a fine vehicle though!

Sage advice. When VE comes out, they'll bend over backwards to get rid of older stock. You can really pick up a bargain. The good thing about VZ as someone else mentioned is that they're a pretty well sorted car. New cars always have production "niggles" for the first few months, so if you really want a VE, I'd wait until April/May 2007.

Thanks for your input everyone.
Yeah it's a tough decision. I'm hearin' ya regarding niggles on a new model. Run out prices won't do me any favours as I'd be salary sacrificing it through work and we get discount on Ozzie built cars so bonus models such as Lumina, SS-Z run out specials etc don't apply. One thing that puts me off the VZ is the 4 speed auto. A few mates who have the 5.7lt VZ SS with an auto say it's not real smooth, especially when kicking back into second. I guess there's always the manual option but it would be completely new territory for me. I reckon I've dabled with a manual less than half a dozen times in my 15+ years of driving. Don't know how hard it would be to pick up but I'm guessing I'd have a sore left leg for a couple of weeks....lol.

Its not perfect, but it is a pretty tough unit. The response of the transmission can be tuned to your liking with a PCM edit. Many people report that they're much crisper & sharper after having a tune done.
I think the best thing to do would be to take an auto XR8 for a drive, since that's essentially the same transmission Holden are going to put in the VE. Compare it against a VZ SS, see which transmission you prefer.
Disclaimer: Don't buy the Ford.

If you want a lighter car than the VZ 6L will be your choice.
The VE is going to be a heavy car (as there will be more feature to put pressure on the other camp) also I think they'll put the 6speed GM auto in the VE. So it depends what you want to use the car for.

I've been doing a lot of research and have made my mind up - the VE it is. From what has been speculated about the VE sure it will be heavier but the 6.0Lt engine will be pushing 285kw. Plus I wont be running it down the quarter so what's a half a second to me. Thanks for contributing.

Where did you read that? It took them 7 years to get from 225kw to 260kw, now you're telling me they'll make a 25kw jump in 7 month's time? I doubt it.

I was in the same dilema, buy the VZ now or wait until the VE. In the end I settled for the VZ for several reasons but the main two was the current VZ pricing. You can always do deals on old models but can not do deals on a new model for at least twelve months into the new model. The other reason was there was no guarantee I would like the new shape. I am always slow to accept a new models shape and features. First glance has me always saying the same thing "boy, they got that wrong". But after twelve months a new model grows on me.

I read it on another holden forum. Of course it's only speculation but the argument was along the lines of Holden are saving "the good bits" for the L76 motor for the VE. Time will tell but one would be surprised if Holden brought out a new car which was slower than the previous model. If I'm allowed to say which other forum it was I will but I don't want to break any rules.
EDIT: I just had another read of that forum. The talk was that in order for the VE to maintain the same power to weight ratio with an extra 230kg it would need a 285kw engine. Who knows, it could just be the 260kw that they'll run with and have DoD and the 6 speed auto to manage fuel economy.
