It should because the the 6L in the SS and the LS3 use the same reluctor wheel.
The VZ LS2 on the otherhand uses the reluctor wheel used in the LS1 so needs either the wheel replaced (crank removal) or a electronic reluctor kit to change over the pulses.

ok , my VZ SS 2006 has an L76 , I know there are other VZ 2006 with different 6L motors, I know my L76 reluctor is same as LS3 but not sure if I can plug and play an LS3 crate motor. I've been eyeing off an LS376 525HP crate motor,

Is that what the plate under the bonnet says? I have an 06 SS Thunder and it has the L98 6L, which I believe is similar to the LS2, but is not an LS2.

The L76/98 are all similar to the LS2 being all called Gen4 but the LS2 is different using LS1 style heads and reluctor wheel.
The L76/98 in the VZ is same as used in the VE except for the sump shape.
The difference between the L76 and L98 is the L76 has AFSM lifters fitted Like in VE but not activated in the VZ and the L98 uses normal lifters like the LS3.

AFSM being the Active Fuel Management system? Good explanation though, cheers. So the l98 has ls2 style heads or ls3 style heads? And now to go look up wtf a reluctor wheel is!

Cheers, given me more reading to do, I like that.

More cars than I've got space to park!
The L76/L98 engines have cylinder heads from the L92 (not used in Australia), which has rectangular ports instead of the old cathedral-shaped ports:

The LS3 also uses L92 heads. Note that there are actually three port configurations available in LS engines, the two above plus a raised rectangular port unique to the LS7 & LSX.

The reluctor wheel is a toothed wheel that tells a sensor the crankshaft angle:

L98's were only in the 06- utes. Sedans got the L76 for whatever reason.
