Can sump plugs leak?

Hey all. Got to ask. Do sump plugs have a use by date? I was under the car doing an oil change and noticed an oil drip from the sump plug. On the last change, when it came back from the shop it was done up very hard. I think over tightened! Above that area, you can plainly see some sort of oil leak activity, but nothing out of the ordinary. Cheers

vz sedan vs ute gsx1400
i replace the plug with a new one from holden only 7 bucks every time when i give the vz a oil change just a peace of mind thing some people will say you can reuse them

If it's tighten to specs, it should last a fair bit. It's a rubber washer, not a copper one, but as said, doesn't hurt to replace it if it starts leaking.
