Hey folks,

Changing the plugs today.
Removed the coils but the boots stayed on the plugs.

Searched here, not much info but there was advice to pull them out with long nose pliers.
This was not totally successful.

It was like the boots were fused to the plugs.
One boot came away in a 1000 bits. Left a bit of it fused to the head.
Vacuumed the plug bore out and removed the plug.

I now discover in amazement (or no amazement) that the boots are not available as seperate items.

Can they be found separately?

Also is there a reason they would fuse to the plugs?
Is there a grease or lube of some sort I should use when refitting?

I had hoped to get a set of lead pullers from a few autoparts shops but they aren't to be found anywhere.
Once upon a time they were a basic item stocked in a parts shop.

*On another note, the amount of nonsense there is about how hard it is to get the intake plenum off is unbelievable.
I had it off in around 5mins at most.
More complicated and time consuming to remove a tyre.

*Any tips on disconnecting the electrical connector from the coil?

Obviously coils have been there for a long time and/or the engine has been very hot at some stage, and if they are in that condition then new coils would be the order of the day.
Last set I fitted last year were around $42 each from Repco, but I screwed them on price.
A quick spray of silicone spray might help but I have never used anything lubricant, however, the 4 sets I have done, the engines were 140000to 170000k's and very clean engines.
I agree with you on the plenum, always took me way longer to remove the old gaskets.
Good to hear you used common sense and used a vacuum cleaner to remove the rubbish.
I usually duct tape a bit of plastic tube to the vac nozzle to get into the hard to get places.

To remove the plug from the coil simply push the clip to one side(drivers side clip goes to rear) and lift the plug off.

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. The motor has 190000km. From the look of the plugs, they are the original set. Not looking great.

Would make sense.

Mace have well warranted Coils at the moment. $170. Hard to beat with a 3yr warranty.
