VZ v6 ticking, clicking noise somewhere around the instrument panel

my 2006 v6 vz sedan has developed an annoying ticking , clicking sound that appears to be coming from the instrument panel. My first thought was speedo cable but I think they are a thing of the past as it is all electronic now, even the throttle. Any info would be helpfull. I am concerned that this noise is telling me that something is wrong with my car and I would like to fix it before something bad happens.

Could be a leaf touching the air con fan.
Turn off air con heater and see if it goes away.

It's not the keys dangling from the ignition is it?
