Hi guys.
Have a manual VZ 6 commodore with a broken/sheared driveshaft.
It has sheared between the center bearing & the diff.

What options are available? Is the rear shaft common on all models?

TIA

Not sure about compatability between models.
Sourcing a replacement tail shaft from the wreckers would probably be the quickest option to keep yourself mobile.

I'm just trying to help out a kid who broke down out the front of my house on saturday night.
He has been quoted $600 to replace the rear shaft.
Sounds uber expensive for 2" of tube!

I realise the front shaft will be different sizes depending on which gearbox/trans is fitted, but the center bearing remains in the same spot so i'm hoping that the rear shafts are all the same size. Fingers crossed.

The kids picked up another complete driveshaft today.
It seems to be about 1/2" too long on the front shaft.
Will take it into a shop tomorrow & have the rear shafts swapped over.

The cost that he would have been quoted would include balancing, which will need to be done.

There are so many variations on the driveshaft and it is important to get the right one, also it is just as likely a second hand one will have a flogged bearing.

I got a complete reco driveshaft for $350 exchange from the Canberra arm of rare spares. I'd ring around.
