Hi Everyone,
I am going to install some monaro binnacle guages into my SS shortly and I was wondering if anyone has made up a loom themselves and has any photos that they can post up? I am only curious as I am not sure if the end of the loom that goes into the instrument cluster has a plug or needs to be bare wires. If there is anyone who has installed these guages into and SS (as they don't have the loom already there) and they can help out it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance,
Wildvz
This was a pretty easy wiring job for me. My gauges were aftermarket and I had no loom or factory wiring. You amy need to test the gauges to determine what wires are what.
I tapped into the mobile phone plug for the accessory live and earth. There is a spare plug under the centre console which I think is used for the ciggy lighter, I used that for the lights (using a test light I found a light circuit wire).
The biggest job was running a wire from the binnacle to the front of the block for the oil sender (V6). I found the grommet for the main wiring loom had sufficient "give" to push a coathanger through from the INSIDE of the car, to which I had taped the wire. I ran it under the existing loom as much as possible to keep it clean. Easy!![]()
If you splash out and buy it with all factory gauges and wiring then I expect it would be plug and play. If you want to save money like me then there is a little more fiddling but with a minimal amount of electronics understanding and a test light, you can't go too far wrong.Originally Posted by highendrev
Not if ya know ppl that work for Holden
But the guages are a waste of time IMO - Just Oil and Volts.
If anyone here looks on the LS1 forums site there is a LOT of discussion about the gauges. Apparenttly its not as easy or as cheap as it sounds.
the VZ binnacle set is run on serial data, they dont use the oil sender.

Sounds like I did the right thing buying cheap aftermarket gauges - and they are accurate (I replaced mechanical with electrical and they were spot on).Originally Posted by Doctor Bob

NVU a division of Motorfield Pty Ltd in Thomastown (03 94661011)have a loom and a wiring diagram showing how its connected to the cluster loom, but NVU may not sell the loom by itself.
There is also a wiring diagram on LS1 forum in one of the threads.

I thought i'd throw this in, cos i was down getting some work done on my thunder and asked them how much it'd be for those gauges. The responce was... it's bout 500 bucks, because they don't make aftermarket ones, and about another 500 to get them fitted.... so it'd need to be a Shiite load of cool factor for me to get them.
They do look wikid tho...
