Can you describe the noise? Like is it a whine or a whoosh kinda thing? Does it appear to be coming from the vents or elsewhere?

It's not coming from the vents, it sounds like it is at the back of the engine just behind the fire wall, holden have changed the compressor but the noise is still there? it got me beat??

I have got exactly the same issue with my 05 SV6 Auto. Holden has no idea what it is. I had a 02 Mini Cooper S that also did the same thing too, BMW took about 4 goes to fix it and in the end I can't remember what they did.

Do you mean the 'whining' noise that seems to get worse when the A/C is on?

Not sure if this is the same noise but mine had the (aluminium?) block that exits through the firewall that the aircon hoses attach to touching the firewall. Made a metallic sound at about 2000 rpm, particulary left hand turns. This is located in the firewall in front of the glovebox. Took bloody ages to find cause. Temporarily fixed by bending connecting block mounts upwards. Pressure in hoses causes same thing?
It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious

2004 SV6 manual, quicksilver, LSD (now standard!?), parking sensors, 6 stacker, bluetooth car kit, 1600 kg tow, tinted windows, K&N filter, strut brace
