So im looking into a new car.
Easy question... i hope... what is the real difference in fuel economy between the 2 engines.
My heart says V8 but my bank manager (wife) says V6...
Is it only $10 difference a week?? or what?
Or are the other things eg Rego and Insurance the pocket killer??
insurance is definetly more for a v8. fuel consumption, well until you get some responses from others, i can tell you that some people say the V8's don't really drink that much more than the V6's. If you drive them ncie and easily, the V8's would probably only use like 3-5 litres more per 100km.
THIS WAS TAKEN FROM http://www.users.on.net/~nweber/comm.../vz-specs.html it may give you a rough idea
Fuel Economy (ADR081/01):
These are for engines from January 1, 2006 complying with Euro 3 (ADR79/01) regulations.
V6 Automatic Executive: 11.0 (L/100km)
V6 Automatic Executive Wagon: 11.2 (L/100km)
V6 190kW Automatic Sedan: 11.4 (L/100km)
V8 Automatic Sedan: 14.0 (L/100km)
V8 Manual Sedan: 14.6 (L/100km)
E Series
Well I had a VR V6 Berlina and I was averaging 10.8L/100km. I've now got a 2004 VY SV8, driving fairly lightly and about 60% of motorway driving (according to the trip computer I'm averaging 58km/hr) I'm averaging 12.4L/100km doing roughly 230km/week so less than $10/week more in petrol to run the V8.
Hmmm insurance on the other hand, my insurance doubled. But there's serveral factors in that....newer car, price (the VR was insured for $10K and the VY is insured for $38K), more desirable car for thieves etc and simply it being a V8 plus I'm 25.
thats crazy.... my VY V6 is sitting on 13.2L/100klms at the moment, and
1westie has an 8 going at 12.4l... damn, I"m getting gipped! lol... need a tune badly... and i'm probably 40% highway, 60% traffic and city... so shouldn't be anywhere near that different, really makes it seem worthwhile to get an 8 if it can vary so much... :P (and yes, I like punching it now and again, i (prob 85% the time) do drive rather sedately...
