Default Comparing two vehicles

Before i bought the vz i owned a vt and would quite often travel to brisbane.
I could fill up in St marys and not refil till i reached Surfers in qld on average i would get 8.2 ltrs to 100km.
Even though i have had the vz over 18 months ive yet to do a long run in it,
has any one here done the sydney to brisbane run in the 175kw version.
I'd be interested to hear your results.

Well, i've just come back from doing the brisbane to snow run, and saw my fuel consumption in my new VZ executive reach as low as 6.9l/100 km. that was with 2 ppl, and heaps of snow gear, but no aircon on.

i've recently completed a trip from newcastle to snow, then echuca, then south west VIC then home again, 2 people and fully loaded tray (ute), a/c on all the time (usually on heat he he) and from 3379km's i averaged 8.3l/100kms.

i was very happy with that!

woe! with ur vt u made it to surfers on 1 tank of fuel??? we went up to qld last xmas in mums vt , we had to refuel 2-3 times, with 4 ppl and full car with air con on , didnt think it would make such a huge difference with an extra 200kg, unless the vt isnt running its best

You should be able to get 8.2 ltres per 100km ,and on the way back i got to the f3 before refueling, but i only had 2 people plus luggage in the car also it depends on your right foot.
When was the last time your mum had the car serviced ,even the wrong plug gap can make a heap of difference.

what is that road like - windy or straight? how much acceleration and braking did u do? do you know what it said your average speed was?

sorry for so many questions. someone once told me that 80km/h is the most efficient speed to travel at. i reckon if you were on a straight flat road with cruise on you could get the 6.6L/100km they put down in the specs (for an exec)

edit: just been having a bit of a look around the internet and according to this page the most efficient speed varies from vehicle to vehicle but in most cars speeds over 90km/h increases fuel consumption considerably.

The southern highlands is way above sea level ,and to get there you travel down the Hume hwy you actually use more fuel getting there because you are slowly climbing all the time.
And on the way back its down hill all the way and the differance is about 1 1/2 ltres usage. the speed on the hume is 110km so if i only drove at 100km you would save more but be a menace to other drivers.
