Question New SS Thunder - Does it need wearing in?

    Hey guys,

Ordered an SS Thunder the other week, was meant to be here Monday but now they are telling me next Friday!!

I am planning on taking it on a long haul road trip to Byron Bay (I am in Tassie) for 6 weeks and just wanted your advice on wearing the car in and what to do / not to do in the first few thousand k's?

    Cheers, can't wait!

    Nick

Run it in for the first 1000'ks, not hitting and keeping the car at 100km/h. I have heard that they are runned in at factory, but take it easy for the first 1000k's, and you need to get it serviced at 1000k's aswell (check the service schedule). After that give it now and then so your engine can get used to going hard and after 5000k's its all good (MAX POWER, MAX FUEL ECONOMY).

So when I picked up my SS and drove it from Melb to Sydney 3 days later towing 2 boats that wasn't a good idea???

Good advice though. I did find that the motor free'd up at around 7000km and got much better fuel economy after that. It also seemed to rev cleaner. I suspect the ECU runs them slightly rich when they are new.

    Thanks Guys,

Well I'm off on the 7th of October, so I'll have to do plenty of driving between then and now so that I can get the 1000 klm service done before I go. Don't get the car til this Friday coming.

Good to know fuel economy improves as they run in, I think I average 16L/100klm on a test run for about 30 klms, urban driving, highway and city.

Can't wait, V8 has been a dream for tool long!

Just double check on the first 1000'ks service, could be 3000k's as the VE service schedule shows.

the owners manual (that little unopened book in the glovebox) should have some handy info in it that may help.

Mate Don't Know if this Helps you at all, but from what i've been told, that the car should be driven hard for the first 2000km's, this helps set the computer, by driving hard i mean quick acceleration, not speeding, make sure in a new car you let the engine warm up aswell
    Hope it helps

they have self learning computers. and it only takes a litle bit of spirited driving for the computer to know whats goin on. they adjust fairly quickly
