Hi,
Just wondering what the VZ SS rev limiter is set at? ive had it to 6500rpm and it didn cut out. Im sure people here have hit it a few times.
Thanks
I've got an auto VY SS. A couple of times I've held it in 1st and "accidently"lost traction in the wet and over-revved it.
It didn't hit a rev-limiter as such but changed into 2nd for me - even though the shifter was still in 1st. Ouch - I won't be doing that too often!
I didn't see the tacho too well since I was too busy concentrating on the road, but it was at around 6000 rpm.
about 7 grand i think
We got rep back, yaaay!
ill check for u tomoz![]()
the rev limiter is set at 6250rpm, did the car really hit 6500 or was the needle shooting past....(this is also common)
Its ok to put it into first and put your foot down the car changes around the 6200rpm mark and then goes into second automatically, if you keep your foot flat it will hit the rev limiter in 2nd gear.. You just have to be carefull when slowing down as it will go back to first and you will get compression lock up (tyres will screach).
You can't hurt your car by giving it all you can ( in a straight line ) that's why there is a rev limiter![]()
1 of many things u adjust, but u only change this if the vehicle keeps producing power above this rpm......
a few other things that are adjusted as well. eg me personally i like taking away the auto upshift, when holding the shifter in first.
turning on cooling fans earlier. and other things like change the time frame and tables for warning systems, eg running hot, or oil pressure dropping.....etc.
But all in all a very noticeable difference in a car, once tuned.......that will leave u asking yourself, why did i wait so long.
I have my rev limiter set at 6400rpm with my edit, only internal mod is the valve springs cause mine were floating around at about 5500rpm.
I have Pacemaker 4>1s, high flow cats, difillipo twin 2 1/2in cat back it revs very nicely to the limiter but 6400 is about its safe limit. Oh yea its also a M6 LS1. The edit is the best mod I've done and worth every dollar, there are so many things done in the edit all of which add to the drivability of the car, great throttle response improved torque curve and obviously heaps more power even better fuel economy(improvement of around 1.5l/100 less fuel usage). Power went from 200rwkw stock to 220rwkw with a MAF tune no mods at all then to 240rwkw with the exhaust and enclosed K&N pod CAI and tune touch up.
Go see a tuner you will not regret it, if money allows I would advise a custom tune over a mail order if you are running a few mods to get the most out of these mods especially if you are considering extractors and cats.
I always assume the rev limit is when the rev limiter cuts in
