Question VZ SV6 Replacement Paddle Shifters

Hi all,
Does anyone else with a VZ SV6 auto have trouble with the placement of the steering wheel paddle shifters?
To use them, you have to have your hands at 9 and 3 o'clock position and tuck your thumbs behind the spokes.
I love using them, don't get me wrong, I wanted to ask if anyone knows of any aftermarket paddles you can buy that are larger so you can grab the wheel a little higher up.
Also, I reckon they should be a feature, like they are in upmarket euro cars, maybe made of alloy??
I'd appreciate any info, even if someone knows of a company in SE QLD who could make them up?
Cheers,
Ed.

You can also get them in black for around $70 from your dealer. Perhaps you could look @ getting a new set and taking them somewhere to see what they could do? They look like two pieces of plastic attached to a single metal rod.
