Default Amp+Sub on factory Acclaim head unit

    Hi,

We are about to get a VZ Acclaim and was just wondering if an amp will plug straight in to the factory Acclaim head unit or if we need something else?

    Thanks.

you need the famous phreddy mod. ask in the ASR Audio & Electronics forum. phreddy has tricked out a number of units with low lever pre-outs for amps, as well as ipod/mp3 player inputs and (who could resist) his awesome blue light dash conversion.

click here for the ASR forum
or click here to send phreddy a PM with your questions

Or a line-output converter. Goes between head unit & amp. Car Audio Australia (add .com to the name) have a top notch one for $45, better than any of the rubbish you get from JB/Autobarn etc, checkout reviews and comments on their forum, requires no mods to car. Or Phreddy's mod which is very popular with forum members (and others).

if you want decent sound get phreddys mod, that way you will get nice clean sound into your amp. if you use a converter it just takes the amplified signal out of the deck together with all the distortion and drops it back down to line level to go into the amp... which equates to 2nd rate sound. imo if you dont mind it sounding 2nd rate then why not leave it stock.

Phreddy adds the RCA sockets you would get with an aftermarket head unit. That and the Ipod mod are the 2 best things Ive ever had done to a car. They were also the first things I had done to my car.

In my acclaim I was running the standard door speakers, but used 2 of the RCAs to run a subwoofer.

I have since put in new door speakers, running off a 2 channel amp, as well as the Sub. I didnt cut the original wiring, so I am able to put the standard speakers back in at any time, say when the time comes to sell the car and I want my speakers and amp back, or if the amp shats itself and I dont have the money to buy a new one.
