Has anyone tuned an SV6 and got some decent power figures? If so what was the cost and how much has fuel economy suffered? With fuel prices these days the good old bent 8 is a little hefty on fuel. I've been driving an XR6 turbo and there amazingly really good on fuel and go like stink. Might have to jump ship unless a holden 6 can match it. Cheers

Jump ships mate, alloytecs not going to match it without some $ spend on FI. Then there is reliabilty questions. 200rwhp has been achieved from tunes in a sv6's from a few blokes here, but still no match for factory xr6t power :)

the are people getting above 230rwhp from there un opened alloytec. which is good from a 3.6L.

the ford on the other hand is a little bit quicker. but drinks like a fish cost a **** load to insure and the ba 5 speed manual and diff is made out of plastic or some material just as weak. i know of 3 guys that did drive xr6ts (2 utes 1 sedan) and they all dive ls1 powered holdens now and aint looking back

hey mate. Welcome to the forum.... Just to be picky this is in the wrong section and you may have better luck posting in the VE section. But ill help anyway.

Tuning a VE, depending on what year wont be too hard. Most places can do it, i think its just the later model 2008 and the MY09 that they are still having with. The tune needs to be done in real time, either on a dyno on a street tune. With mods such as extractors, larger rear section of the exhaust , ron98 fuel and high flow cats you may expect to be tuned to 160rwkw ish, probably a touch lower. Just depending on if its manual or auto.
There is only one place i will recommend for tuning in melbourne Chev's Performance Centre - Carrum Downs Victoria

Now he does specialise in LSx engines, but i spoke to him last month about alloytec tuning, He said "its not a problem for me to do it, the torque management is a pain in the ass to strip, but i can do it. But mate, unless your going to spend massive amounts of money on the engine the gains wont be huge"

Cheers

sound like a bad tuner classified i'd give VCM themselves a call they are based in melbourne alloytec gets huge gains from a tune alone usually around the 20rwhp area with about 70ishnm of torque which is what counts. removing the overly controlling electronic throttle control will dramaically improve drivability.

See that just makes no sense to me 327. 14kw for $900 doesnt really seem like a fantasticly "huge gain" 70nm of torque is quite good.
Honestly, see the cars that go through Chevs and it will become obvious that he isnt new to the industry.

yeah but the alloytec is new to the industry and tuners that down give a damn about them don't have the first clue about how to tune them.

VCM themselves warned me to take care when choosing a tuners for my alloytec. yeah 14kw peak power doesn't sound like alot. but don't forget that rwkw which is still a 10% gain and the torque gains are intoxicating. plus you actually get 100% throttle when you ask for it instead of this progressive throttle ****. which wont let you get full throttle under 3grand. plus you usually gain better fuel econ due to how rich the alloytec runs.

VCM call there shop autotechnica or something i think?

and anyway 900 for 14kw is about $64 per kw, $8000 for a blower is about $133 per kw seeing the average gain is about 60rwkw's.
