    Default Date Stamp

My mate just bought a supposed VZ SS Gen III engine, we had a look around but could not find a date stamp. Is their a date stamp and where is it, or is their an alternative way. Also is their anyway we can prove its a SS engine?
    Thanks for any help.

Its supposed to be a 5.7 litre Gen 3, out of a VZ SS ute.
Is their anyway we can find out what its originally from?

Sorry, my bad. VZ did have the GenIII, but was replaced later on by the 6.0L. There was nothing specific to the engine that made it exclusive to the SS, so you'd just have to take their word for it that it came from a VZ SS. Holden may be able to confirm what car it came from of you can provide them the ngine number but you'd be pushing your luck to get them to help.

Oh lol thats alright, scared the crap out of me, i set my mate up with the sale and thought i was in big trouble then lol.
We wernt sure if the SS was different or not. Is their a data stamp so we can make sure it is what we have been told it is. Also is their any obvious external signs or markings between the 5.7 and 6 litre to make sure we have the 5.7.

Sorry so many questions, its just this is going into a 78 series Landcruiser and we need to get everything 100% for engineering, vicroads, and the adaptors.

I think the SS had 10 kw more than other 5.7's, (245kw -v-235) but it was only as a result of either free-er flowing exhausts or slight engine management re-mapping (or a combination of both). There were no SS modifications to the engine itself.

With the crap reputation the Gen III had, who'd want one that you might not know the history of and could have been thrashed anyway?

    Regards

there's nothing wrong with the later gen111, ie vy&vz, the first lot of problems was fixed by the time the vx came along

on another note, did the engine come with the cover, is it the turtle shell or the 2 piece one, if its 2 piece its the vz gen111, turtle shell is vt-vy

We done our research, the VT ones were known for piston slack and rear oil seals, but the as said above the VX onwards were fine. I doubt its been thrashed, its only done 7000k's unfortunately it got rear ended and written off. My mates a mechanic and he checked it all out before handing over the cash and he was extremly happy with it.
