Hi all. I'm thinking about installing Reverse Parking Sensors to my 06 VZ and would like to know from people that already have it if it's worth doing and what would be the best type? I'm in the western suburbs of Melbourne. Does anyone knows the best place to get it done? As you'd know the Holden dealer wants an arm and leg for it. Thanks for your help.
Anyone else?

My Outlander has them from factory, my wife loves them. We used to get aftermarket ones installed that actually spoke to you, a voice tells you how far away from an object you are.
They're like aircon, once you've had it you would never be without it.
Love em, get off ebay $40 for the 4 sensor kit, even comes with hole saw, and that alone is $40 to buy in Australia, took 1/2hr to fit, drill the 4 holes, click in the sensors click the 4 wires from them into the control module and wire one wire from the module to any metal ground screw and the other to one of the reversing light wires, that's it. Nothing to adjust or calibrate.
2mtrs = 1 beep every second
1mtr = 1 beep every 1/2 second
1/2 mtr = continuous beep.
And to think Holden service wanted $550 for it installed, basically the same unit.
And Strathfield car radio wanted $390 for it installed
And they are all similar in the way they work. Don't get the 2 sensor ones, must be 4, and don't go for the new conductive tape ones as they don't stand up to the elements under the rear bumper.

I just had a look on ebay, they are everywhere! Are you able to be more specific George? What about the ones with the LCD indicators???
I've been threatened with expulsion if I post another link by the forum nazi, so you will have to search item no 110241395149 on ebay this is the one I got, it's got a fancy distant display left or right in meters as well which has the beeper in it. But I hid it all behind the rear light pannel in my VZ wagon which has vents in it to let the beeper sound out in the back.
Cheers George
georgehifi any chance you could post some pictures of them installed? maybe some up close ones? just want to see how neat they look... cheers.
Came out neater than i thought it would, nice job!
I'm afraid if i do this that paint might chip around the hole when i drill, or that you may see a rough edge from the drilling.. or does the parking sensor sort of have a lip that sits over the edge of the hole so it covers it up?
Also they look nice and level.. any tricks to this or did you just estimate?
the reversing sensors I put in my car, have an LED display which goes on the dash, and shows you how far you are from an object, AND which side of the car its on... pretty accurate, got the kit off ebay.
this is the kit I got:
4 Censors Reverse Parking Sensor LED Display Car 4004 - eBay Accessories, Cables, Audio, Video, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 11-Apr-08 15:35:14 AEST)
cant remember which seller I got it through though
edit: thats not the one I got, its close enough, you get the ideahaha
The paint won't chip because it has a flexaid additive that flex's with the plastic of the bumper, if it were the same as what's on the car then yes it would chip.
And yes the sensors do have a small lip as they would press right through if not, they press in and go click tight, no need for glue, and they are slightly chamfered to take into account the inward sweep of the bumper.
And the ones from Holden are painted by their paint shop as they need them, just scratch the back, they keep the common sprayed colours up in stock like white tungstan and such but you have to wait for them to order an spray the others.
Cheers George
Phone any Holden parts about the VZ reversing sensors and you will find they are all black, and get sprayed the colour you want, you just make yourselves look ignorant by ignoring this.
Why pay $550 for the same thing when you can do it your self for $40 and 1/2hr of your time, is it sooo bad to go after market and not feed the General more money. And probably do a better job in the process because you care for your car more.
Revising the cost for all those interested
The cost from Hunter Holden Ryde Spares, I found it is $557 just for the parts kit and if they don't have them sprayed up in your colour, you have to get the non painted black ones sprayed yourself.
And from service they want $320 to fit the kit from spares.
Grand total of $877.00 What a gip!
Cheers George

Settle down mate, I was just having a joke before.
I don't think anyone here is denying that doing it yourself is far cheaper. Does it look as good doing it yourself as opposed to getting them factory fitted? Maybe, maybe not. I would tend to think not. Yours for example don't match in colour.
But the main thing I was thinking when looking at your pics was why? Why would you need reverse parking sensors in a wagon? The car pretty much ends at the back windscreen - you've got no boot or rear wing to contend with - how hard can it be to park one of those suckers?
As far as getting factory fitted vs diy $877 vs $40 no contest, for me anyway.
Like I said in an earlier post, once had, like air conditioning, it's hard to live without it.
I said in an earlier post I sprayed mine with what I had in the shed, Kitchen Top White, which was close but not close enough, I plan to redo it with the correct Duplicolour Holden White spray, which I believe is Heron White from Auto One $7.00.
