i manual r8 would be a great weekender/thrash car, grange are classier and a more of a cruiser. and i would imagine granges cost a fair bit more

What cars do you have currently ?
If you have sporty cars go luxury, if you have luxury go sporty,
I agree with Minux go the senator they are a mix of both and the interior is nicer in the SWB IMHO.

If a manual is what you want, get one. You will probably find yourself changing through the auto gears with an auto.... Go with the clubby...
Edit: or what about a new ve SS?

If you want a manual, go for the Clubby, you'll be much happier with it. As great as the Grange is, if you can't stand auto transmissions, you're just not gonna be happy. The R8 is also gonna be easier to drive, and to park, since its got a shorter wheelbase than the Grange.

As for me, personally I'd go for the Grange. I just think they're a damn sweet car

For the record, Y Series never had a 6L, either you got the Y series mixed up with the Z series (which DID come out with the LS2, at least in HSV form, anyway, while the standard Holdens retained the 5.7L LS1) or the salesperson is wrong.

I can understand a LS2'd VZ being faster than a VE though, isn't the VE supposed to be about 100 or so kg heavier than the VZ?

The later VZ's (SS's etc)also had the 6ltr although it was the L76 variant not the L98 in the ve. And the ve is from memory 200kg ish heaver than the vz

Pretty sure it came out with the 6L. As stated above though, if you want manual go and get it, you will probably find yourself bored with an auto, plus the manual v8's are heaps of fun.

If you really want a manual Senator, just buy a Y series(had both auto and manual), sure it is only an LS1, but spend the gap difference on the Z series on mods and it will slaughter most LS2's out there

This i didn't know... just be wary, it may be hard to sell off a manual senator, it is a luxury car not really sports. The Z serious ls2 clubsports look HOT especially in black. If you can afford one i would get that. Otherwise possibly a Y serious senator manual or any Y serious ls1 and mod it up, as minux said.
