Ok so I've owned my VZ SV6 for almost three months now and I've just realised where my VZ makes sense.
I really hate city stop-start traffic and so does my wallet judging by the fuel consumption. In the city the car just doesn't feel at home.
This weekend I have driven it in the city, on the highway, in a regional centre and through a twisty winding road. When I DRIVE my car, it feels fantastic. When I am stopped I feel like I am in an expensive lounge chair.
Driving in a regional centre like Whyalla, its not bad as there's only a handful of traffic lights across town, large roundabouts as I always say, 2km/h slower than Adelaide, never stressed.
I drove about 700km along the highway throughvarying conditions from driving rain to perfect sunshine and the car didn't miss a beat. I didn't feel exhausted or fatigued...I just needed to pull over to eat and ****.
I drove it to the peak of Mount Lofty yesterday along a winding road you normally find in Europe and the car just rode the corners, I was never nervous.
It makes sense in the hills, on the highway and it towns. So all you VZ owners: don't sentence your car to a lifetime of urban 9-5 driving - get out and take it places.
This car is great, provided you enjoy driving and feeling the road, thanks to the FE2 suspension. It is truely a drivers car.
How do the other models stack up in these 4 driving conditions: urban, highway, regional centre and twisty hills?
gday parents just brought sv6 white 40,000 2004 model seems to be a nice car 190kw alloytec has some poke,I dont think anycar likes urban stop and go driving, good to open her up and get the v6 moving in the hills and see what it has got,few extras on the s model makes things alot more comfortable than the exec.
Cheers.![]()

Welcome to the wonders of being a member of Just Commodores Cruising ClubThis weekend I have driven it in the city, on the highway, in a regional centre and through a twisty winding road. When I DRIVE my car, it feels fantastic. When I am stopped I feel like I am in an expensive lounge chair.NSW does it once a month for that reason!!
Okay we've had VZ SV6 company car, and we currently have VZ Adventra SX6 and my VZ Acclaim.
The SV6 was fun and copped a thrashing coz it wasnt our car, don't get me wrong. But I found the Adventra is awesome fun to be thrashing through the twisties because of the weight + AWD at a 40/60 split it just grips the road better then the sedan. Plus the brakes come on when you need it, and you feel the brake pedal stiffen up as the brake distribution kicks in.
The Acclaim however is by far the most fun. Its an Ex NSW Police car and has god knows what springs fitted. The plate says STD (coz it is an Acclaim) but their yellow springs and it sits low. Many Holden gurus have had a guess, its not FE2 - it sits a tad lower then FE2 which I proved on the weekend when I tried to fit a hydraulic jack under the rear to jack it up by the diff only to find the diff sits too low
On the same hand we had just jacked up VZ running ex-VZ SV6 FE2 springs no hassles, so it does sit lower. Because of the springs I find it handles exceptionally well. The only thing is after our last cruise through some twisties coming down a mountain, I glazed the original pads over to the point of no return, so Ive since fitted police pads from a forum sponsor as we have a cruise next weekend from Sydney to Canberra, then from Canberra to Bathurst, and will see how we go.
But you dont understand how much fun the car can be until you take it outThats what all the JCCC NSW members have found and I reckon thats why they keep coming back
Plus getting the car out of the city once every now and then gives it a good run and gives the engine a good clean out.
Glad to hear your now enjoying the car
Hi there mates,
I've got a VZ executive 175 kw 4 speed auto, I do a mix of urban and highway driving on the way to and from school. As stated above, yes the car is a wonder to driveI'd like to have a better understanding of it as well.
For example, I'm holding 80 km/h on cruise control on the highway. At that speed, the rpm sits at about 1400. Would that be considered... well... not good? I haven't got much knowledge on this stuff, but I think 1400 rpm in 4th would be considered labouring the engine... and therefore bad for fuel economy, engine and transmission? Should I shift down to third instead (2000 rpm).
Thanks in advance, and please if there's any thread which is related to VZ's do tell me where I can find it.
The only Exec in Saudi that's now properly badged!
most people i know, that own/have owned SV6's, say its got around the same if not worse fuel economy than the LS1 for mainly around town driving.
Yellow springs could be ssl king springs?? Fe2 are grey/black.
I just drive home from townsville and felt the same, relaxed. Awake and alert, just hungry. The sv6 is an awesome car is all conditions. Lives to be lazy, but can oversteer through some if those windy corners. Or if u want it to you can have it grip like glue with tc
Life starts at 200km/h
I know this is about VZ's but I have to say I love my car when I'm out on the back roads and highways, but even in town I love it as I sit in my leather bucket seats with my climate control and bazillion speaker sound system, while other people sit in their tiny plastic rattling hell boxes and it still gets a combined city/highway readout of 13Ltrs/100Klms.

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
i say the open highway for my VZ SS 5.7 due to it can get more out of it and cruise control works wonders on the Hume or anyother highway system it dont like Stop start traffic cept when B Doubles wanna take over slower traffic and such it could use a brake kit upgrade
