    Angry SRS Airbag fault

    Hello guys
My car is a VZ SV6. The problem is, it shows SRS airbag fault display whenever I start. I never met across any accident or something, just started showing this message from last week. Then I took my car to holden service centre (westpoint-darra) and they said its due to high resistance in seat circuit and charged $60 for 30mins labour. They said that the error is reset. But again by evening when I started the car, it started showing the same message. I took my car to the same service station this morning and after about 1hr they said that the airbag and spring has to be replaced and it cost about 900 bucks. Somebody please suggest me if there is any other thing I can do...Thanks heeps.

You could try taking it to an auto electrician and get a second opinion. Other than that my only advice is don't go to holden for services unless your still under warranty.

Thanks mate. Here is the description of problem as per holden service centre

"Investigated and found that the driver airbag has high resistance and requires replacement along with the clock spring. Customer to please note that the air bag may not deploy"

Well, I don't know mate, I'm annoyed. The main reason for buying a near new car is just because I don't like to run behind the maintenance and I never expected such problem from a most common car like commodore.

Looking forward to hear from you
    Thanks

    Hey
It's expensive mate, they said it will be around $900. So better I will check this once again with an auto electrician. But yours may not be exactly the same, if it's just an error they can easily reset it. Anyway best of luck.

    Cheers

Oh....thats so sad. So what you gonna do now?

It will be excellent if someone can suggest a place to fix it other than holden service centre. I live at forest lake-QLD

    Cheers

I'm sure if you've had your car serviced at the same Holden dealer since you've had it they should look after you after all its only one week over .

its either going to be the clockspring or the airbag, have it diagnosed first & the codes reset by someone who knows what they are doing, quoting on both at once indicates they are too lazy to diagnose it correctly.

Clockspring has fixed the problem, obviously every problem is different.
Lucky it fixed it, worth its weight in gold and then sum..

Also note that airbag was replaced before clockspring, problem still evident.

I agree Bob - that's a typical "replace-everything-we're-bound-to-get-it" attitude. After all, it's the CUSTOMER that has to pay for it.... Lazy fault finding - gives me the squirts!

In fact, I would suspect the clockspring before any other bits. That's the part that's always moving, and subject to the majority of the wear.

I have a 2005 VZ Acclaim wagon. When I first bought it, the SRS Airbag Fault light would display everytime I started my car. I took it a mechanic for it's regular service and asked him to fix the airbag fault, which he did do, as the light stopped coming up on ignition. To my dismay, yesterday it begun to appear again! 2 months after I first had it fixed. At least I know now to request a clockspring replacement before they charge me for the entire airbag! Thanks very much everyone.

I've never had to replace an airbag, and I do alot of work with SRS systems. Faults like this can generally be caused by broken wires (ie under seats where it moves back and forth), bad plug connections, or typically the clockspring (as it's maneuvered alot). Don't just have parts replace or request the clockspring be changed right off the bat, it may not be the problem, get it checked by an auto electrician first. Holden may make the car, but their service technicians tend to know jack all and just replace parts until it's fixed, mainly because their mechanics, not electricians...

I know it is an old post but I am having the same problem with my wifes 06 SVZ wagon.
The mechanic got the light to turn off which was a few months ago but now it has started again.
Going in tomorrow to be checked out again

The car has only done about 33000k's - we are second owners

How did the unfinished stories end
