Window Tint

Hey guys,

Wondering if any of ya's have had your windows tinted on your ride recently? Am looking to get say 20% tint all round on my VZ SV6. Anyone know of any decent windscreen centers and what sort of prices to expect? So far I have queried the following and am waiting for feedback:

TKO
Performance Tinting
Protec

If you were prepared to come to Bunbury I could get you a good deal with Tint-a-car, but you do realise 20% is illegal.

I'd stick to legal tint, as its no fun having to pay again after the police make you rip your illegal tint off (which i've had to do twice now).

heh yeah, I was just looking into the legallity factor and it looks like it'd be better to avoid a licky. So therefore, whats the max % for legal tint that you can use before you get ear-f***ed by a copper? Also I just had a quote to have my car done, $310 from Protec and $340 from Allwest. Hope this helps other people, but if you know of anyone else who is cheaper, hook a brutha up !!!

ive got 20% in my wagon and its great, i got a cashie job done for 200 using a madico film, pics are somewhere in my ride page

Yep 35% is the legal limit. Except in SA anyway (as with most things )

Make sure they remove the stock 'safety' film or whatever it is as well as that is normally a few % so if they cover that with 35% film it will then actually only be around 30-32% so you can still get in trouble if you're ever tested.

heh, looking at my windows and I swear there is like no tint there at all heh. There's a protective film of course, but its completely opaque

Just had a quote from Performance Tinting for $300 for %20 tinting (any price difference you think for a lower grade tint? ie: 35%?) but have a lead time of 3 weeks at the moment.

I got 20% on mine and it is a pain in the arse to see out of sometimes, especially at night when there is glare coming into the front window.

agree the worst ive come across was rain+dark street+reverse park= awkward, other than that looking through the inside out i dont see to much difference between 35 and 20

Price shouldn't be any different if you got 35%. Some places do charge a little more for the illegal tints like 20% but only cause they're greedy

if you get 20% they also dont put stickers over your car

You can pretty much paint the back window black in the utes. Not illegal to have say 5% on the rear window. As troy said it becomes a major pain in the bumhole. i.e. shoulder checking, reversing with a trailer/boat. I had tint-a-car midnight express on the VY and it was perfect. A little deceiving actually because from the outside they looked very dark but inside you had a good balance of clear vision, sun protection and darkness.

Nice one Banks, I love the sound of that Think that 35% will be the go, I don't see the point in risking a licky for restricted vision in conditions of high glare (as stated by andy) and rain+night+oncoming lights. Think I will bite the bullet and get it done at 35% asap Taking next week off work for a short break so I might get it done then ...

Still 35% rear, but the front two windows (the ones either side of the driver) can only be 70%.

70% is just a reccomendation in most other states, but SA make it law.

The guy who did mine charged an extra 20 bucks because it wasn't legal. I'd say it is more of a way to discourage people from doing it

The film doesn't cost any extra, nor does the fitting. Its just $20 extra profit.

To me, thats just being greedy. If they wanted to discourage it, they wouldn't offer it.

stripemaster in rockingham (for those of u in WA) will do 20% for $300... and $50 for removal of existing tint. I'm planning on getting that done after i do the exhaust... unless anyone can do a cashy for me :P
