get a k&n panel filter than get a monaro cold air intake,
pod filters if anything will be less effective as you will be drawing in hot air unless you get the complete air charger kit

god dont tell him to get a piece of equipment that is PROVEN to reduce air intake.
Pods are ok if they are encapsulated and only draw cool air. best bet, 2 hole mod and a kn filter.
Better yet, i believe some places are releasing OTR intakes for the alloytec, research that and i think you will have a clear winner.

I've heard a lot about this "two hole mod" but I see two potential problems:
a) If it's so awesome and simple, why didn't holden do it from the factory?
b) Surely it makes no difference what size the opening is at atmosphere side of the airbox when you're still running standard (and restrictive) piping??
Can anyone answer these?? Cheers

A) It increases induction sound by a fair margin, and considering the Commodore is a family sedan, Holden will want to make it as quiet as possible.
B) That's a tough one. Some people have sworn their car is faster with the two hole mod; me I can't guarantee that cos I haven't measured it. I wouldn't mind knowing either.

yeah the noise is most definatly the reason they keep the air box ristricted and the 'coolest' reason for a fully sick filter bro hahaha but yea it offers very little kw differnce at the fly wheel. its suposed to be like 12kw. So i doubt you would even notice it. Also its meant to improve fuel ecconomy.
As a stand alone 'mod' its worthless. just saves you a bit of money over the long run with having the one pannel filter over the next 50 odd services (suposedly that many) than forking out like $80 a paper panel filter over that many services.
If you spend the money on a decen CAI kits plus pod plus sports exhaust and better oils, with 98 RON or E85 fuel then you will notice the difference.
For my old pos XH falcon. all that gave me an extra 100 km out of my 65L tank (So from 250km a tank to 350 at most)

a)they did fit it at the factory.... the monaro has it, monaro's have much more power, so that ones a no brainer
b) look at the angle of the air intake in the radiator cover, it drops of at 90degrees, so the motor has to pull the air down, then it enters the box at almost the same angle it has to go out, which means the motor is doin more work to change the flow of the air.,
also i have not measured but i wouldnt be surprise if that intake pipe is smaller diametre then the intake pipe goin to the throttle body.
the second hole just creates less restriction, which allows the motor to get the air it needs easier

Growler? SS Reductions??
Wait for a proper OTR, and do the 2 hole mod in the meantime. Castle Hill Exhaust was apparently working on one a little while back, but it was found not to work any better than the two hole MCAI mod. With a bit of work someone might develop a good OTRCAI for the Alloytec - there's a lot more science in it than one might think actually.....
But as a whole lot of others have said - a pod filter alone will only reduce your performance. It'll make a whole lot more inlet noise, but once it's warm it'll be making less power.

I had a suspicion about that also but I've never bothered to measure it.
Agreed on the last point too
