Default 235/45/17 Tyre Prices in Lower North Shore, Sydney

My ride is in need of new tyres so I have been doing a bit of research. I told each store guy to recommend a good tyre and below are some 235/45/17 tyre choice and prices that I have been quoted in lower north shore, Sydney. Hope this will help someone

Jax Quick Fit Artarmon
BF Goodrich G Force $179
Sumitomo HTRZ II $169
Michelin Preceda $235
Goodyear Eagle F1 $259

TyrePlus Chatswood
BF Goodrich G Force $200
Michelin Preceda $280
Goodyear Eagle F1 $290
Yokohama Advan V103 $335

BTC, Artarmon
Bridgestone Adrenalin $210

TyrePower Artarmon
Bridgestone Adrenalin $235
Goodyear Eagle F1 $270
Toyo Proxes T1R $265

*All prices above Incl F&B; Alignment extra

I am leaning towards Sumitomo HTRZ II! Nice looking tyre, reasonably priced and according to the guy there, a lot less noisy than Adrenalins or F1s.

Cheers,
Anu

TireRack are always good for tyre reviews, not so much because of their own review (it's basically marketing material), but users write tons of short reviews and rate different aspects of the tyre.

Check it out:

I had a beautiful set of Kumho KU19 on the back but the stupid Holden IRS killed them in 12 months. They cost me $170 each. I replaced them with two Gemstone SP01 at just $119 each including F&B. I know they're cheap but will do until I can sort out the suspension. They seem quite good so far.

235/45/17 are such a common size now that I just couldn't justify spending more than $170 per tyre. Bridgestones are great but you pay for the name. The Sumitomo look pretty good. I guess it also depends on what sort of use they get. If it's just suburban/city driving you don't need anything too flash. If you're planing on taking corners pretty hard then you want something made with silica and a softer compound. To problem with soft compound tyre is they don't seem to last as long.

Sumitom's are a good tyre but they wear pretty quick as do the Goodyears eagles.
Why don't you try Tempe tyres for those and others like Khumo KU31 or Falken GRB's both excellent tyres and usually a fair bit cheaper than the ones mentioned.
I think the Yoko advans and the Michelin Preceda are over priced probably because they are specified tyre on a lot of high performance cars where people use the same tyre when it's time for replacement and don't care about cost.

I've never had a set, but Googling about other forums and tyre review sites they sound like people rate them quite well for the price?

One site mentioned sidewall issues leading to bubbling (bad thing!) so possibly the build quality isn't all that, sounds like the tread design + compound is quite good though.

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinions. On going through various online reviews, they have been rated pretty well. Some have reported side wall issues but am hoping it's not on all. I have got 4x fixed on my car and WHAT A DIFFERENCE it has made. Amazingly quiet, superb handling in wet and dry and certainly confidence inspiring. I have only done 2500kms so can't comment on longevity yet.

Cheers

Check the treadwear rating on the sidewall. If the number is over 300 they will last a good while. between 200-300 average, less than 200 and you better have a mate in a tyre shop !!
