mode settings flash on/off VZ
Hi, first post...first commodore as well. 05 VZ Lumina wagon
had a flat battery recently, when my son left the headlights on auto while he was making out with his girl.
now the mode settings ie fuel economy/use/distance etc flash on and off alternately instead of staying on all the time..very annoying.
also caused the srs airbag warning light to come on.
took it to the holden dealer and he fixed the airbag light with his scanner2
but said he didnt know what the cause of the flashing mode setting was!!
said i would have to come back and maybe "have the computer reflashed"
they still work, but flash on/off, also battery was not 100% flat, did not trigger radio code, but did make clock lose 20mins.
anyone else had this problem
can i reset somehow using the "mode settings"
am busy and prefer not to take car back to dealer, if not neccesary
must say he didnt charge me and said most of the techs had left as it was 4.30.
totally used to working on older cars and am electronics qualified
regards tony

have you tried disconnecting the battery for an while? dont be afraid about the radio pin, it wont be needed unless you actually pull it out of the car,
by flashing im taking it as the screen goes blank and then comes back on, or it keeps on scrolling through the menu?
if it scrolling it possible the mode button is stuck,
also, how was the car restarted? it could be possible that a computer got a voltage spike, hence causing the fault codes etc

I didn't want to go there But yeah as Andy has suggested, disconnect the battery for a bit and see if you can give it a "soft reset"

the only time i have seen this it was caused by a dash processor failure, try disconnecting the battery overnight & see what happens, if its still no good you probably have to replace the dash.
if you need to pm me , i can have a look at it & see if its fixable

Re the radio PIN - it doesn't matter if the battery is disconnected for a minut, a week, or a year - if the stereo unit is in the same car, you don't need the PIN.
(oh, this is for the Blaupunkt VY/VZ units)
The stereo and the BCM have a little chat with each other apparently, and they remember. The only time you actually need the PIN is if you need to fire up the unit out of the car (like on the workbench), or if it goes into a car it doesn't "know".
