berlina quality!
well i went to melbourne today and looked at heaps of vz execs and berlinas!
and one thing i noticed on the berlina was the centre console was all chipped and stratched on all of them!! and same kind of thing with some of the execs.
Are they s*#t quality or do people just not bother to look after their cars?..?

I think you'll find the latter. Most people wash their cars about once a year and don't give a damn. I managed to pick up a Berlina that isn't too badly scratched on the console. There's no one else for people to blame when the interior is stuffed, they can hardly say "it must have been a shopping trolley".

as noted owner missuse, if the marks are on the left hand side of the gear selector, that would be from a genuine holden phone dock, they clip over the console and generally run through the paint

The Dark Tempest grey paint used on the console and dash centre panel is pretty thin and scratches easily. My Berlina had only 32k on the clock and was immaculate when I bought it, except for certain buttons on the CD/radio, which had scratched badly. Probably from the previous owner having long fingernails and using certain buttons more frequently.
It's a damned nuisance because you can't replace the facia for the CD as a separate unit, can't get the touch up paint anyway and it would be a nightmare trying to repair without painting out the labelling on each button. And it looks lousy.
Anybody got any ideas how to fix it (short of buying a complete Dark Tempest 6 stacker or replacing the head unit with an aftermarket one, which is not an option)?

Good question, do people have ideas on how to just fix it? would not be an issue if there was a simple solution. i would have thought you might be a able to get touch up...bloody holden (dont shoot me!) lol

mmm... i dunno bout the 6 stacker facia... i remember someone selling a vy berlina 6 stacker with optional tempest grey or the black facia on ebay. he actually offered the buyer a choice between both. maybe give holden a buzz cause they might have a clue. i did say might!

Hi there Calaber,
I seem to recall phreddy saying that if it's just a few buttons that are scratched (not the actual fascia of the unit) then those buttons can be simply snapped out and then snap in some new ones. - I think it requires some stripping down of the unit but I couldn't imagine it would be too difficult. Saying that, you will need the replacement buttons anyway - meaning another unit.. What buttons / how many would need to replace?

Hi Brad
The following buttons are scratched.
On/Off (badly scratched)
Seek Track (also bad)
FM/AM
All lower buttons from 2 to 6 inclusive.
Doesn't leave many undamaged does it?
The previous owner must have been a female who had finger nails of iron.

Doesnt phreddy have some buttons painted & engraved for his AUX kit? I seem to remember reading somewhere that he has this done to modify a standard button to suit his kit.
Might be an idea to message him...?
