Buying an ex police VZ
Hi,
First time commodore n00b here. Forgive me if I've posted in the wrong section, or asking questions that have already been answered.
I'm buying a VZ Commodore Executive, Manufactured May 06 with 46,995KM up on the clock. It's ex police - but I'd say it was an unmarked car as it isn't white. Delicious looking blue gray colour actually.
It seems to have non-standard executive features (4 power windows, 4 airbags, fe2 suspension, traction control). Service history is good (checked the log), and drives pretty nice.
I'm paying $13,990 for it. With that mfg date and that KM, it's still under factory warranty until May next year.
Is this reasonable? Bad idea? Good idea? General advice/feedback would be appreciated.
Again, apologies if I posted in the wrong section or am asking "noob" questions that have alreayd been answered.

you'll get a barage of keyboard experts saying dont do it, their thrashed from cold, their crap, their this their that ... but mine is 2005 silver Acclaim ex-NSW Police unmarked, bought at 92 000 kays, now 132 000 kays on it in just over a year, the only issue ive had is a power steer hose had to be replaced (their a known issue on the VZ which should be fixed under warranty but I dont like taking cars back to Holden) and a power steering hoseclamp that broke ... once again, another known issue with all VZ's
BUT overall no issues! Fixed the holes in the dash, she's all good
hope that helps

Yeah, I read in another thread people saying they're thrashed from cold etc. Good to hear yours goes well I didn't notice any holes in the dash from mounted lights (even checked the back parcel shelf), which makes me think that perhaps it was a desk jockeys car? Admittingly I didn't look very hard, though.
Another thing is, the Holden warranty according to their website is from date of delivery or delaer demo start, so the car was MFGd in May 06, but VCheck says first registration was August 06, so this (might) mean that my warranty would be until August 2009?

I was actually looking at a VZ Berlina with 110k up on the clock at a dealer, when he pointed out the Executive.
You could get ex cop cars from auctions. I see you're from QLD, so an example is QFleet Auctions at Zillmere or Bundaberg (Bundy would be closer to you), or if you're not comfortable with auctions you might be lucky to find out at a dealer

Car yard would have purchased it from auction for around 10k.
I purchased my ex Telstra car at auction 12 months ago. Great car - very happy with it.

Picked her up this arvo She's niceeeeee. First things on my todo list are darkest legal tint, and some alloys.
Oh! And I have new car warranty until August next year
On a side note - would anyone have any idea (approximation?) as to how much the non-standard extras would be worth (Extra airbags, power windows, t/c, FE2 suspension) etc? I need to know for insurance purposes but I have no idea.

there is a difference, patrol cars very rarely see long periods of inactivity, the engines are 95% of the time at the normal operating temperature, by the km's they are doing with the temperature they are running at the oil stay in pretty good nick, yes they are driven hard, but the engine would be in better than than someone doing short trips and cold start running.
perfect example of what i just said is taxi, they are running most of the time, and the rest of the car usually falls apart before the enignes need work most are doing 500,000km trouvle free and as we know taxi's arnt eactly driven lightly

I'm pretty happy with it so far. Clocked up to 48k the other day. Got it tinted with Midnight express. Looks good with the silverbluish colour (was an unmarked car). Belonged to the Mackay Juvenile Aid Bureau.
It is also still under factory warranty until August next year
