I have just up-graded from a VN to a VZ Wagon....LOVE IT....however, i'd like to put VE Wheels on it...either SS or Calais wheels.
Now i am aware you have to rebore the centre hub of the VE wheel to fit the VZ, but then i recently came across the following...
Anyone care to comment or know any different...!!Holden has told its dealers that the new VE model's wheels won't fit old Commodores.
Holden VE Commodore: production line at the Elizabeth factory in Adelaide.
When Holden introduced the all-new VE Commodore in August it changed some crucial dimensions of the wheel-locating system. This was done to avoid confusion on the production line (as the Holden factory will be building both new and old models for some time yet) and to cope with the new Commodore's extra weight, width and grip levels.
Holden sent the following statement to Drive on Wednesday: "Fitting VE wheels onto a VZ [or earlier model Commodore] is not recommended or condoned by GM Holden as it raises some safety concerns as there are two major differences in the wheels."
Holden said the VE Commodore has 14mm wheel studs and earlier Commodores have 12mm wheel studs.
"If a VE wheel were fitted onto a VZ [or earlier model Commodore] there is a concern that there would not be enough bearing area under the retention nut on the aluminium wheel, which, worse case scenario, means the wheel could potentially fall off."
Ta
baiscly they the saying they dont recommend you do it, but everyone does and i have never heard of a problem from it.
You want to be careful. In the event of an accident, insurance companies look for any way out of paying a claim. Unapproved wheels means unroadworthy vehicle which equals potential insurance issues....
good luck.
Check with your insurance company first.
There a few guys on these forums that have fitted VE rims to there cars.
HoldenmanDan has fitted VE SS-V rims to his VS Berlina & Torquative has fitted VE SS/SV6 rims to his VZ Acclaim.
Going by what these guys have done, i dont think you'll have any problems.
The Blue One
yeh been running mine now for almost 60 000 kays no issue![]()
I had brake clearance issues with VE SSV's and a VZ Adventra
I have exact replicas of the 20" VE supersports.
Worked out far cheaper than buying originals and getting them machined..
Speaking to a "Tyre Power" bloke today, he understands you can now get wider (VZ) 12mm wheel studs, that suit the (VE) wheels....anyone know or heard of this...
I got VE SS V wheels on mine had them for eight months or so and no probs what so ever they havent "fallen off yet". Just Holden protecting themselves if something does for some reason go wrong. Any off the VE wheels would look good on a VZ whether Calais, SS, SSV or the Super sports alloys.![]()
I have the VE R8 wheels on my car and they have a 275 tyre on the rear, my car is a vz few slight modifications needed to be done but handles great![]()
hey guys i just purchased some VE SS 19's to replace my dinner plates but anyways as you know they dont fit, what do i need to get done for them to fit, machining or what? and who in sydney does it ? and for wat price?
cheers
Ive just bought a set of VE ssv wheels for my vt, can anyone tell me where i can get the centre rebored, how much it will cost me and do i need new nuts? im on the central coast NSW
wheels studs are 12mm on VZ and earlier, 14mm on VE
Centre bore is 66.9 on VE and 69.5 on VZ and earlier. If anyone has put them on an earlier Commodore, somewhere along the way, they must have re drilled the center bore out or they wouldn't fit. Thats really about it so its not a huge or expensive job, just find a good metal worker.
guys I update my comment from January
Ive had to replace wheel studs after snapping a few at the front.
They weakened on both sides. $50 a wheel to replace every stud, and a bit of elbow grease fixed it, but yeh something to keep in mind.
im running after market ve ss rims for a year now, and had no problems with them
I picked up some 18x8 VE SS wheels of Ebay today.
I'm going to put them on my VZ Crewman.
Apparently ProMac Engineering at Cardiff will machine then to the correct size to fit a VZ for $25 per wheel.
I was wondering if the guys who had put VE wheels on VZs had used the original VZ wheel nut or had used something else?
Just the normal size wheel nuts mate![]()
Not sure if correct or not but I have read somewhere where they rebush the VE wheels as they use 14mm wheel studs from 14mm down to 12mm to suit older model wheel studs..
The two mm just gets machined of the inside of the wheel mate so the wheel sits back in properly

I have had VE SS wheels on my VT for over a year and have had no problems at all. It is true that it has to be machined but you can find places that have already done that for you. I got my wheels from a place in the bankstown area for a very reasonable price which included tires.
Hey guys im getting my VE SSV wheels machined on monday to fit my vt but im wondering what wheel nuts i need to get? what has everyone else been using? and would the speco WN804-10/50 suit? ive got a suspicion i only need a 15mm shaft with a taper rather then the 20mm? help appreciated,
chris
I just used the original VZ wheel nuts.
