Mum's looking to get a wagon. Im trying to get her to upgrade her thoughts from vx(all she needs) to vz(what i want her to get). Ive been telling her about the new engine in the VZ's but she is a tad worried about a new engine as opposed to as an ecotec which is super reliable from our experiences. Also how much quicker and more/less efficient it is to the ecotec. and tell me how your has been for you, cheers.
mines perfectly fine, runs great, has great power for a v6, and much much refined to an ecotec, once you have an alloytec, you wont go back to an ecotec

Its good for general driving and low fuel consumption below 2000 - 2500 rpm anything above that it likes to play 'race car' and goes hard
Life starts at 200km/h
my wifes vz is still alrite nothing to complain about yet
If its got Wheels or Boobs its gonna cost ya money
well ive never experienced the ecotec as my first car is a vz, however there is no complaints to speak of and personally with mixed driving on the freeway and surburban areas im at 10.5l/100 so I'm very happy with that
I went from ecotec in VY to alloytec in VZ.. the alloytec gets my vote with out question.
Quiter, smoother and nicer to drive![]()
My Dad has a VY Ecotec and I have a VZ Alloytec. Both are great engines IMO. Both feel smooth to drive and have plenty of poke. My Dad tows a caravan with his and it does it with ease. I haven't had any problems (touch wood) with my Alloytec. Its a matter of opinion. Test drive a few and see what you think.
Generally people seem to get about 1-2L/100kms lower fuel consumption with the Alloytec.
Power is up, torque is similar. The 5psd auto is the big seller. That said if it was a choice between say a VX Calais or a VZ Acclaim I'd probably pick the Calais. VX are still nice cars.
Ive driven my fair share ecotec commodores & the alloytech in my thought, is a so much more refined engine that ecotec.
The Blue One
What these blokes are saying. I've owned RB30 VL's, S2 VS Ecotec's and now VZ SV6 and by FAR the SV6 shits all over anything afforementioned in terms of reliability and performance (unless you grab that RB30 and give it an RB25 head conversion then slap a blower on it ... but that's another story) But yeah, I have to say that the VZ idles the smoothest of any car I have driven in a long time.
Me? I'm the guy who does his job ... you must be the other guy ...
i ve owned my vz svz for a year now...no problems (touch wood) so far...i drive it hard but keep it like a baby...ive not experienced a vx so can't compare but am pretty happy with the vz....![]()

awesome, i was sure it was a good thing, but now i gotta say im even more impressed. I'll put in the hard sell to invest in the vz. You guys are great
I'm in the same boat as most guys here, and love my SV6. I had a VP and that was more reliable than my left nut and I'm sure the follow suit!! I was getting an average fuel comsumption of 6.7L/100km from adelaide to sydney which I reckon is awesome for a car that isn't that light!
i got a 190 alloytec but compared to my mums eotec in her statesman, definately smoother and definately loves to rev more, although the ecotec seems to feel like it has more torque down low
