i have the same problem on my 5.7 litre.
its not the idle tensioner but one of the other two idler pullies.

I thought it may be that, haven't pulled it apart yet to have a good look. Sprayed some CRC on it and it went away for about 10 minutes and its back again. Its annoying

    sounds like mine.
give it a spray and itll stop for a bit but it always comes back.
seems to almost stop when the car warms up as well.
im not sure if its a serviceable part or not or if its just one of those parts that your better off replacing and not worrying about it.

would like to hear other peoples thoughts though.

sure its not the belt, my sv6 would squeak sometimes when cold, or if it was wet(had bonnet scoops) changed the belt and the problem never came back

same deal with a mates monaro, was making a similar noise to my sv6, changed the belt for him and problem solved

Theoretically, if the pulley is plastic, it will be expanding faster than the captive bearing inside, this will increase the clearance between the ID of the pulley and the OD of the bearing. There may be some movement.
But i could be wrong too, whilst talking out of my arse.

i know mine isnt the belt.
if i spray behind the pulley (or around the bolt) it shuts up for a bit.

replace the pulley thats squeaking, simple, if you spray lubricant on the pulley make sure its not getting on the belt aswell

Its either the Pulley or the Bearings inside the pulley.

Not sure of the cost, i just tightened up the idler pulley & the noise went away but this was on a different car.
No squeaks on the SV6 as yet!

Is the idler the part behind the pulley? Mine gives an occaisional movement every couple of seconds. There looks like there is a spring inside? How can this be fixed?

I have same annoying squeal. Lasts about 5 minutes until engine is warm then is practically gone. Tried explaining to mechanic but would have to leave car overnight for them to cold start it. They lubed some pulleys and it was gone for about 2 weeks but back again. car has only done 35k so not like its old and worn? anyone know if its a cheap or easy fix? VZ SS

ok found another example to back up my belt theory.

today the boss' vz monaro had the belt changed to stop the squeek.

so that 3 cars i know of, all fixed by replacing the belt, it cost about $25 bucks and takes 15 mins to change,

Use Innox spray, or lannox. They are some of the best spray lubricants. Just dont get it on the belt. See how they go. Its like a common thing with Holdens.

inertia of the water pump still trying to spin faster, happens at high rpm

I don't think its that because it does it at idle until its warmed up a little, tried CRC and talc powder and its still there
