Hey guys,
Today after work i couldnt get my 2005 VZ Lumina to start, well the key wont move the barrel at all, it is like i am using the wrong key.. i have tried my spare key and same thing, steering lock is on and i have spent an hour trying to get the key to turn.. as i know sometimes the steering lock can cause this problem, ive also tried to start it in Neutral, and pushed the gear selector hard up in P to make sure its not aligning properly, as this problem happened with Old commos..
any ideas what it could be? i had to leave the car at work, and going to arrange a mechanic to check it out tomorrow.. after i try it again, but ive spent a few hours on it.. leaving it for a few and coming back, and still nothing would get it to budge.. someone suggest WD-40 down the barrel... tried this, nothing.. its very weird as i have never had anything like this happen before, it always turns with no problem.. and they is not worn at all, car has done just over 65,000kms..
any ideas would be greatly appreciated..
cheers![]()
U may have already tried this but jiggle the steering wheel back and forth as sometimes the steering lock jams the key barrel.
Had the exact same problem last week. It's the ignition barrel. Try pulling the key in and out very quickly a couple times. If that don't work, get a new ignition barrel. Cost me $250 for the guy to come out and replace it for me.
damn, i have tried shaking the wheel while trying to turn the key..
and ive tried the pulling the key in and out fast to see if it pops back out, hopefully when i go back tomorrow its in a better mood and starts up!
how hard is it to change the barrell yourself...
