Default Can't put rims on a crewman?

Hey guys. I went down to my local bob jane the other day to get a tyre replaced cause its bald and i coped a massive shock/bs.

They guys told me it would be $300 for a new tyre on my 05 VZ Crewman S and when I asked them about rims ... they said you can't put rims on a crewman.

(Now I know that the car can carry up to 500 kg in the styleside box tray and I have a 2.5 tonne tow kit) But when I asked about SUV rims (which I know are load rated and are good to throw on 1 tonne utes so you can still carry your full load) he said nah you can't put them on.

I am going to go up the road to beurepair when I get the cash to get a new tyre and ask them.

Any one here have rims on their crewman? and i have seen a few getting around here in brissy so i know the dude was full of poo.

$300 for a standard tyre is bullshit aswel. Unless the tyres are specific for a load rating or something, they would be no different from any other tyre. I'd be complaining to his management and telling the guy needs more education before he opens his mouth again, or to admit when he is wrong.

    Try someone else for sure

Be vary carefull of what wheels you get, the load rating is the key here. If it is lower than the stock rims, you may be able to be pinged for it.

Yeah i've heard the same issue. Because its classed as a commercial vehicle, you have to keep those wheels/tyres.

As said, you should be able to find something with the same load rating!

Yea all suv wheels are load rated. I have had them on 1 tonne utes before. the only reason the crewman wheels are load rated is cause it ways 2 tonne with out a load and passangers then can carry a further 500 kg in the styleside tray plus passangers then the tow kit (mines 2.5 tonne with brakes) So i understand the reason for load rated rims ... Just thought i'dtell every one so as to get a second opinion and then to make sure the guy was a tosser.

one i found on the site, and the bobjane next to work have 20s or something on their crewman. as everyone has said, can be done. i guess the store you went to likes the "too hard basket" a bit much.

That doesn't change the law tho (as stupid as it is). They would get a different placard if it went to HBD.

Im sure they would consider it but if your sitting at the lights and a car smashes into you i doubt they would care. Correct load rating or not that didnt cause the crash and thats a big agrument on your side

You havn't dealt with many insurance companies have you?

I used to work at a crash shop, and the assessor first looks for something on the car that they can get out of paying with.

Tint on my front windows. AS IF they wouldnt fix my car if it was ran into at a set of lights.

My car is too low, too loud and tinted front windows and was fixed no questions asked. $3500+ worth of damage..........

I'm not sure how it works with another persons insurance, but if your using your own insurance, they will of course try and find anything to get them out of paying!

Too low and too loud would not be covered on the policy, so therefore you've breeched your contract (have to maintian a roadworthy car)

This was done using my own insurance company. Insurance bloke drove the car, looked it over, said it looked like a nice car and ok'd the repairs.

Well, assessors are people too. Most of the time, their job is to find out ways to get out of paying a claim!

The laws have changed in QLD on wheels and a few other things ... when i get the email forwarded to me i'll see if i can put it up but you can have rims on the car as long as they are rated at 1.5 times the factory fitted rims load rating. There was also somin else about tyres ... mental blank. But yea I'm not gonna go back to that tyre shop.

My previous cars that I had accidents in had a few minor things that made them un-road worthy at the time of the crash and the car was fixed or paid out on with no issues from the insurer. The faults were not the driect cause of the accidents though. if they were I would have been up poo creek.

From my research into Crewy rims and tyres I have found. (NSW)

Crewy's came out with rim sizes 15 to 18 inches.

The compliance sticker on your door states what rims and tyres you have.

Tyre dealers will only go of this sticker as it is the law.

Holden are bastards for not putting on a sticker that covers all sizes for the Crewy.

Makes it very hard to get mags and tyers for it.

I bought my wheels for my one tonner off bridgestone. They would only sell them to me if they didnt put them on the car, cause they arent legal load rating. I need a 104 (i think) rating amd theyre only 100. . .
