howdy, does anyone know how to code a new key, got a clone cut from mister minit, but the guy had no instructions,. help please.
should have been coded there
they have a machine that copies the code from the original key to the key that he cut.
Chev badges are an instant fail
Try just putting it in the ignition and turning it to the "on" position for about 30 seconds.
When I got one for the VT that was how the guy coded it. I watched him doing it. Once they are programed though, they are locked to that car - you can only use "blank" key fobs.
AFAIK the procedure is the same for the VZ?
is that all i need to do ?
i think he coded it but he said some stuff about opening car with old key, put new one in and thats all he knew
It was a while ago, so memory is a bit hazy.
You may need to use the original remote to unlock it first, yes. He did this on mine, but I don't know if it was because the car was locked anyway, or if it's part of the procedure.
Have a play with it, I don't think you can stuff it up, it either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't you can try again, because the guy did something wrong the first time and it didn't work, then the second go he got it.
sweet thanks mate.
appreciate it. oh will an apexi air filter give me any more power, or will it just make a cool noise?
hmm if you paid the money to have a new key cut and programmed by mr minit(theres a problem there but i wont get into it) that key should work by itself with no learning or in-car programming, if you have to use 2 keys to get into your car and start it that defeats the purpose of the new key,
some things are best left for holden or A PROPER scan tool that codes key, and this job is one of them

If the method works, why not use it?
put new key in turn key on all the way where ur dash light are on and leve it on 4 40 min if u are out there when it bean time u might hear the fule pump start. start the car .then let it run for 1 min and it should be done.
when you work in the industry you hear of the problems cloners cause, the pinnacle ive experienced was a women walked into spares, bought a new fob cause minit ran out (she had to take back to him) after she bought it she than got crabby and wanted to put in an offical complaint cause her remote locking keeps malfunctioning, i had to laugh at her, obviously there was a problem with here original remote, and the problem keeps getting cloned to the next key
danja, have you done this in a vz, vts have different computers to vz's id like to see this work in one, as ive said, cloners only mimic the code off the old remote, if the cloner get an interferance from another device or the key head has an error, it will be passed to the new remote,
scan tools and holden match the key to the computer via learning, new head + programming from holden is usually 110-130, how much does minit cost? and are they genuine key heads?

It wasn't cloned from the old remote to the new, it was programmed by the car. I was watching the guy the whole time from when I handed the original to him, to when I drove away. He detached the actual key, then cut a new one, reattached them both to the heads, then we walked outside to my car where he performed the procedure above then started the car and gave me both the keys. He didn't do anything else.
I haven't seen it done in a VZ, and it's possible it doesn't work that way anymore. Worth a try though I think?
mate u need to go to the car..open it with old key....close door lock ur self in...start car with new key and let idle for AT LEAST A MINUTE..that will programme the key to the car...and check boot release works..also if the key for ur car has been cut more than 6 times..it will need to have the chip memory cleaned out..only holden techs can do..its like it has a memory..but only holds enough data for 6 keys to be programmed..they will work once then ..nothing..

when i got mine done, it was $180 from Holden for the key cut and programmed.
i believe a mate got his ve key cut and programmed at mr minit
i dont think this is something the car can do itself
