Ok, I've got this habit where I fiddle with the gear stick button when I'm on long highway drives. A week or so I was pulling into the drive way at home, went to put the car into park and all of a sudden the gear knob has popped out. Luckily it slots back in, but it easily pops out. I also think that a two week heat wave has maybe warped the plastic.
So solutions. Do I just replce the button or do I need to replace the shifter as well. It just clips in. A 10 year old VT at work is fine with its gear selector so I think I'm just unlucky. Shit has a habit of malfunctioning around me all the time so I'm not suprised with this.
If I need to replce the shifter I might go with a HBD unit. Is it as simple as replacing the button?
Hey, I had the same problem, I just ended up replacing the button and gear stick surround with the silver one like this since I had an exec with the plain black one.
It is quite easy to replace and you should be able to get one from Holden's or ebay.
Mate i dunno how you do it? you must fiddle around with stuff like i do when on a long drive as i noticed the button on mine is quite loose as well. and was only thinking this week it might pop-out?
lemme know how u go with replacing it and cost of a new HBD one. i might just swap it over too before the button ejects out of me car.![]()
I've just changed to the satin shifter, so I've got the black part's left over. If you still need one, give me a shout.
I'm thinking this looks like a good replacement:
NVU, Genuine Holden parts to suit Holden Commodore VR,VS,VT,VX,VY,VZ,Monaro,Statesman,Utes and HSV
My button hasn't actually broken, I think the clips have just warn or warped from the sun.
The Blue One
A mate of mine had the same problem he took it to Holden and they anded up replacing the whole shifter. cost about $400
Couldn't be without my Commodore
What why?
All you need to do is replace the bezel?
$400 is crazy.
