Hi,
I'm not very car literate, so not sure on the best terminology to use, but I have a VZ Berlina Wagon, and about 6-9 months ago, it started to randomly generate a whistling / whining type sound when driving and accelerating around 2000rpm.
Lately it's doing it all the time, and I found out today it also does it when idle, but around 3000rpm.
When driving (accelerating on 2000rpm) it's pretty constant. As soon as you take your foot off the accelerator, it stops. As soon as you put it back on and get to around 2000rpm, it's back.
When idle (in neutral or park), and accelerating around 3000rpm, the sound is back, however it comes and goes, consistently, on, off, on, off etc.
From having someone else do it when I was standing outside the car, it sounded like it was coming from underneath the body somewhere, more so than in the engine bay, but I could be wrong.
I'm thinking of taking it to the local Holden dealer to see if they can locate it, but if anyone here has any ideas in the meantime, it'd be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Check your air hoses under the bonnet that they are all secure also check and see that they are not cracked or have worn. Anyway a good way to start your elimination process![]()
maybe u have a tuuurbbbooo FULLY SICK
check your extractors, for cracks and holes, i had a crack in mine causing a wierd noise, not much of a whistle but a noise.. or check your exhaust for faults..
Life starts at 200km/h

the two ton go kart
It's because of your Air con, turn off the air con and you wont hear a thing. Have it full blast and it will "whistle" away. VZs have a natoriously loud air con whistle.
or maybe its a diesel?
Nope i think he ran over a lolypop lady!
Have you put speakers + amp in your car?
Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table, because he only recognizes the element of surprise
maybe a blocked muffler....then again maybe im full of s**t lol...
check for exhaust leaks, look along the pipes, particularly in the pipe flanges(joins) and around the exhaust manifold, look for cracks, if its been doing it for a while, black carbon build up might have run out with condensation so look for black trails

i also had a whistle from by throttle body to inlet manifold gasket whistle, it was my own fault but, i cleaned the t/b, and the gasket got a slight tear in it, fixed it with a bit of gasket goo

Its probly the air con. try driving with the aircon on and off and see if you hear a differance. its what happens with mine.

think mine is interference when playing my ipod through the radio tuner
Yeah i think its normal but not sure what causes it. My mates Vectra does it but my old VX didn't must be just certain cars.

Hahaha I was going to ask if he'd bought me old battery..... Supercharger sounds included.....
Me? I'm the guy who does his job ... you must be the other guy ...
Running on LPG my car backfires occasionally and causes a small air hose under the air inlet pipe to blow off, this causes a whistle sound that is most obvious when travelling up hill, you just need to take the decorative motor cover off and then you will the hose under the air intake pipe just above the inlet manifold, I'm not sure if I have the terms right but it was easy to see, it is on the passenger side of the motor around 10cm from the centre of the motor
