Hi all,
I have just had a new set of wheels and tyres fitted to my Caprice and sure enough, now the tyre pressure sensor function doesn't respond (all 4 tyres show a malfunction on the screen).
I had half expected this would happen and it's not really a biggie as I have just turned off the tyre pressure function so it's not constantly beeping at me but I`d like to know why it's not working (if anyone here knows)
How are the tyre pressures read on the factory wheels and tyres? And why doesn't the function work with the new set of wheels/tyres?
Cheers for any info
Maybe it is working but the new tyres operate at a higher pressure and thats the warning your getting?
are they bigger /smaller than the old wheels?
The new wheels are 18 inch with 45 series tyres (I think from memory) whereas the factory wheels were 17 inch and 50 series tyres, so they're not that much different.
I'm led to believe (but not entirely sure) that the pressure sensors are located within the factory wheels/tyres, so obviously now those factory wheels and tyres have been removed the function isn't going to work.
I was more intested in seeing if these sensors can be fitted to any tyres? Are they (the sensors) available from Holden? Expensive etc??
Someone may be clued up on the Caprice's gimmicks![]()
hey dude, I have done the same thing just turned the monitor off. I have been lead to believe that the sensors are on the valves themselves which would be able to be switched over.I didn't bother changing them.
Just remember this is only what I have heard not tried.!!!

Hey All,
I have seen this before, happend to my mates car,
The sensor is stuck to the inside of the rim, so if you change wheels it cant check pressure because there is no longer a sensor to send the message, you can have them removed and refitted to new wheels but the tyres need to come off all wheels to do this
As per really bad picture below

Thanks for the info fellas - as I said it's not a biggie but I'm happy to now know how it works.
G'Day Black Caprice.
I just stumbled across this old thread. Not too sure if you still own the WL Caprice and if you still have the tyre pressure monitoring system switched off, but the original wheels have a sensor attached to the valve.
Once you have removed these as a complete unit (valve and sensor together), you need to have them installed into your replacement wheels, but they need to correspond to the location they they were on the vehicle prior to removing your old wheels.
In other words, each sensor, is programmed to a particular location on the car. So the front right wheel sensor needs to be programmed to the front right, the front left wheel sensor needs to be programmed to the front left etc etc. This can be done at Holden for around $110.00.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. I've been there and done this many times before. Just beware when doing a wheel rotation, because the sensors will end up in the 'wrong location' etc.
Cheers.
I have been searching for an answer to this thread myself just recently and can provide a definative answer based on my own experience. I have copied my post from the Stato forum, I hope this help someone in the future.
Thanks Xenon, I was not able to view that Video for some reason or other it said it was private?? I have just got my car back from mates tyrepower after having sensors refitted, obviously it was still alarming becasue the sensors were now in the wrong places. (the sensors rely on being calibrated to wheel position in relation to car position)
However, after you mentioned there were 2 options for the tyre pressure sensors in the option menu I decided to have another look. I went throught the menu options and could only find the one that says " trye pressure monitor" no/yes, of course mine has always been set to "no" since I brought the car. After that the menu just went to "exit menu" no/yes. Of course my car was still coming up with the warning beeps etc. I don't know why but I thought maybe I'll turn it to "yes" ie on and see what happens... low and behold another option now shows on the menu screen.."enable tyre pressure warnings" no/yes. I have now selected "no" as it was set to yes. I exit menu, re-enter on turn "tyre pressure monitor" to "no" and now joy of all joys annoying tyre pressure system is completely off. The manual does not explain this at all well, and because the first menu option seems to turn the system off and immediately cut the next menu option you wouldn't know it was there.
Most annoying part is that 2 Holden dealerships could not help me rectify this issue and appearded to have little knowledge of this system appart from the fact that the sensors are prone to being faulty. Their advice was to bring the car in so they could replace the faulty sensors and have them recalibrated with a special tool they use....
I am now just glad the stupid thing is off...and hopefully help somebody else in the future with this forum thread.
Thanks, Greg.
Hi guys, i know this is an old thread but i can solve your issue for you.
I work for Beaurepaires and recently purchased a new set of rims for my WL Caprice, when i was fitting the new wheels and tyres I removed the old wheels and tyres and simply unbolted the original tyre pressure sensors, and bolted them in the new rims. With the new rims on the car i discovered the rims where not in the correct place according the computer in the car.. Easiest way to rectify this problem is to let one tyre down at a time and see which alarm warning the computer throws up. Then just swap the rims onto there proper corners.
Now have new rims and perfect tyre sensors..
I know this thread is old but can I just say THANK YOU for saving my sanity!!!!! I've switched it off and I won't feel like smashing the computer any longer!!!
