Default Removing Alloytec 175 Intake Manifold and TB

Hey guys, im looking at polishing up my intake manifold and throttle body and the likes, but before i go ahead i'd like to say im not all that mechanically minded in the terms of engines and parts so if you start going on about the finer parts of the great v6 donk then i might have a bit of a WTF moment.

So yeah anyway what i would like to know is can the intake manifold be removed easily and without having to replace something to do it (i got told gaskets will need to be replaced if you take it off or some thing like that)

And if so how do i go about getting it off

I would also like to know about the Throttle body, can it just come straight off the front without damaging some other part? And how do i get it off?

    Cheers

throttle body has just 4 bolt holding it on, the wiring has a safety lock on them connector which you slide the coloured part all the way back till it stops then release by pushing the tab in and sliding off,

when you remove the top piece of the manifold, remove the 2 vacuum hoses at the back, the 2 crankcase vents on the side, disconnect the map sensor at the back, remove the 6 bolts, one hidden at the back, lift up and remove, itll probably need a good shunt as it will be stuck to it a bit,

ok, now when have it lift the old gaskets off, if they a metal and rubber, they are re-usable, the paper ones are disposable, holden only sell the metal one and they cost roughly 60 bucks for the pair,

if you damage the throttle body gasket like i did, just smear a little gasket glue around the old seal if you have some, (i ripped it a little bit where the bolt threads through), if you dont have any glue just buy a new gasket,

when reassembly with the new gaskets make sure the surface are clean, a Stanley knife blade is handy on alloy parts, and scrape away from the inlet ports to as much as you can help it,

if you have some cerby clean or brake clean, give the throttle a bit of a clean, they get a lil grubby aswell

hmmm ok thanks mate, i might give the TB a go soon...intake manifold sounds like a bit of chore with all this talk of gaskets and the likes...my car just had a service where the changed the plugs and a coil pack so they would have had to take the manifold off am i right? If so do you reckon they would have used the standard holden metal/rubber gaskets?

    Cheers

if they did it properly it should now have a metal gasket

    Hey Andy,

When removing the manifold you mention there is one bolt hidden at the back?? Is this towards the left hand side??

I was taking mine off yesterday to fit new ignition coils (following this guide: http://www.maceengineering.com.au/AL...TALLATION_.pdf) but it doesnt mention any bolt at the rear and it felt like something was holding it back...

    Cheers.
