Hi guys,im a lady whos desperate for some help!Is there anyone who owns a vz ss 6ltr with an original untouched exhaust system???Im having a major issue with a warranty problem and need to see what an oringinal system should look like as the car yard is trying to shaft me big time.Any help would be much appreciated.Cheers.
I Have a 6L Ute and although it is a bit differrent i found this picture that i think shows most of the parts in a sedan's exhaust. (i thing the cats are missing).
What are they shafting you on?
Hi,thanx for the response. We had the tail pipes changed to have just a little bit of rumble last december, fast forward to about 4 weeks ago and my engine warning light had come on with a check powertrain warning. The car yard had a look and apparently cleaned th 02 sensors, got it back then 2 days later same thing happened. Now saying i need a new cat but wont cover it under warrany coz of slight impact damage(its quite low),turns out its the tinest scratch. We got a 2nd opinion which of course says holden are full of it.Now theyre saying my car shoud have a 3rd cat but its missing???They are claiming further mods have been done, which havent by me.They showed me a system on a 6ltr statesman with the 3rd "cat",but its not the same car so im lost on what to do.They are pulling all kinds of excuses so they dont pay for it,the quote was $1000!
Thats what we've been told by several people. On the statesman they showed us there was a box(if you could call it that)on the rhs about half way down the exhaust, this is what they are telling me i should have but dont. They have ordered a system in to compare to mine, but how the hell do i know if its from a 6ltr vz ss!I realise that the o2 sensors have possibly been affected with the pressure change with the altered tail pipes but is the solution a new cat???
Do they mean a 3rd muffler? There should be 3 mufflers (as in the pic above), but only two cats.

ive got a VZ ss 6L, and yes it looks like a 3rd cat.
i can see where the 2 cats are up the front then there is one that is on the drivers side back a bit that looks like a more traditional cat(older).
hope this helps
Hi,thanks for your reply. My 6ltr doesnt have that at all. What your explaining is what the car yard pointed out, crap crap crap!!!So does anyone know if the solution to my problem is def at new cat?
Im interested in the fact they ordered one in to try and prove the point???
Holden usually are full of you-know-what.
As for the problem its hard to tell but I would be interested in finding out whether its a faulty O2 sensor or not first as the 02 and cat go hand in hand. I could be wrong but just because they cleaned it up then it came good for 2 weeks doesnt nessicarily mean the sensors not to blame either.
Hi I have an original system from the cats back $100.00 if interested![]()
One would think that if the sensor came good for two weeks after being cleaned and then started causing trouble again, the sensor is the problem. I would suspect that it was not the cleaning that solved the problem for two weeks, rather the fact the sensor was disturbed and has started working properly as a result albeit for two weeks. I would suggest they replace the sensor then work from there.
Holden generally aren't the problem it's just inept dealers

VZ SS 6ltr 6 speed silver
VN 5ltr 5 speed Gold (Ex NSWPF Highway Patrol)
VH EFI 5ltr Supra 5 speed tiger mica
XC Barina SRI 1.8ltr 5 speed silver
I just had a squizz under my VZSS and it too has the extra cat thing. It is only on the pipe running from the right bank so I doubt it actually is a cat. I checked in my VY workshop manual, they don't have it.

so this is a 6lt motor just to make sure?
this is the factory exhaust, so yes it is meant to have the third resonator < its a resinator not cat

as soon as i can afford it im getting my exhaust system done.
also apparently, you cant use certain types of silicone as they ruin the o2 sensors.
but i dont think you have changed anything before the 02 sensors.
Nope only changed the tailpipes so far.
